Xu,S. C. Yeh,B. Zhou,G. Zilizi +101 more
TL;DR: In this article, the design and construction of the silicon strip microvertex detector (SMD) of the L3 experiment at LEP are described and the sensors, readout electronics, data acquisition system, mechanical assembly and support, displacement monitoring systems and radiation monitoring system of the recently installed double-sided, double-layered SMD.

Magnifying lens for 800 MeV proton radiography
Frank E. Merrill,E. Campos,C. Espinoza,Gary E. Hogan,Brian J. Hollander,Julian Lopez,Fesseha Mariam,D. J. Morley,Christopher Morris,Matthew J. Murray,Alexander Saunders,C. L. Schwartz,T. N. Thompson +12 more
TL;DR: The design and performance of a magnifying magnetic-lens system designed, built, and commissioned at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for 800 MeV flash proton radiography are described, providing nearly a factor of three improvement in radiographic resolution.

Ellsworth +30 more
TL;DR: The CYGNUS extensive air-shower experiment is described in this paper, where the design criteria, construction and operation details, and performance characteristics are presented, and a discussion of the data analysis techniques is given.

The evolution of solid density within a thermal explosion II. Dynamic proton radiography of cracking and solid consumption by burning
Laura Smilowitz,Bryan Henson,J. J. Romero,B. W. Asay,Alexander Saunders,Frank E. Merrill,Christopher Morris,Kris Kwiatkowski,G. Grim,Fesseha Mariam,C. L. Schwartz,Gary E. Hogan,Paul Nedrow,M. M. Murray,T. N. Thompson,C. Espinoza,D. Lewis,J. Bainbridge,Wendy Vogan McNeil,Paul Rightley,Mark Marr-Lyon +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, Li et al. used a laser assisted thermal ignition technique to synchronize a nonlinear thermal ignition event while preserving the subsequent post-ignition behavior, and obtained dynamic proton transmission images at two spatial magnifications and viewed both the radial and transverse axis of a solid cylindrical sample encased in aluminum.

TL;DR: The Milagrito water Cerenkov detector near Los Alamos, New Mexico, was operated as a sky monitor at energies of a few TeV between 1997 February and 1998 May, including the period of the strong, long-lasting 1997 flare of Markarian 501.
