Journal ArticleDOI
Endoscopic or Surgical Myotomy in Patients with Idiopathic Achalasia
Yuki B. Werner,Bengt Håkanson,Jan Martinek,Alessandro Repici,Burkhard H A von Rahden,Albert J Bredenoord,Raf Bisschops,Helmut Messmann,Marius C. Vollberg,Tania Noder,Jan Felix Kersten,Oliver Mann,Jakob R. Izbicki,Alexander Pazdro,Uberto Fumagalli,Riccardo Rosati,Christoph-Thomas Germer,Marlies P. Schijven,A. Emmermann,Daniel von Renteln,Paul Fockens,Guy E. Boeckxstaens,Thomas Rösch +22 more
TL;DR: Peroral endoscopic myotomy was noninferior to LHM plus Dor's fundoplication in controlling symptoms of achalasia at 2 years, and Gastroesophageal reflux was more common among patients who underwent POEM than among those who underwent LHM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical response to peroral endoscopic myotomy in patients with idiopathic achalasia at a minimum follow-up of 2 years
Yuki B. Werner,Guido Costamagna,Lee L. Swanstrom,Daniel von Renteln,Pietro Familiari,Ahmed Sharata,Tania Noder,Guido Schachschal,Jan Felix Kersten,Thomas Rösch +9 more
TL;DR: A high initial success rate of POEM is followed by a mid-term recurrence rate of 18%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association studies in oesophageal adenocarcinoma and Barrett's oesophagus: a large-scale meta-analysis
Puya Gharahkhani,Rebecca C. Fitzgerald,Thomas L. Vaughan,Claire Palles,Ines Gockel,Ian Tomlinson,Matthew F. Whiteman,Janusz Jankowski,Janusz Jankowski,Johannes Schumacher +70 more
TL;DR: The meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies doubled the number of known risk loci for Barrett's oesophagus and oesphageal adenocarcinoma and revealed new insights into causes of these diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early adverse events of per-oral endoscopic myotomy
Yuki B. Werner,Daniel von Renteln,Tania Noder,Guido Schachschal,Ulrike W. Denzer,Stefan Groth,J Nast,Jan Felix Kersten,Martin Petzoldt,Gerhard Adam,Oliver Mann,Alessandro Repici,Cesare Hassan,Thomas Rösch +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) was performed on 241 patients (58% male; mean age, 47.4 ± 16.4 years) under general anesthesia over 61 months, and the main outcome was the rate of intra- and post-procedural AEs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Jessica Becker,Andrea May,Christian Gerges,Mario Anders,Lothar Veits,Katharina Weise,Darina Czamara,Orestis Lyros,Hendrik Manner,Grischa Terheggen,Marino Venerito,Tania Noder,Rupert Mayershofer,Jan‐Hinnerk Hofer,Hans‐Werner Karch,Constantin J. Vaughan,Markus M. Nöthen,Andreas Hackelsberger,Brigitte Schumacher,Oliver Pech,Yogesh K. Vashist,Michael Vieth,Josef Weismüller,Horst Neuhaus,Thomas Rösch,Christian Ell,Ines Gockel,Johannes Schumacher +47 more
TL;DR: Both variants and corresponding genes represent promising candidates for future EAC association studies on independent samples and thereby confirm that genetic variants at these genes confer EAC risk.
