Long-Term Functional Outcomes after Treatment for Localized Prostate Cancer
Matthew J. Resnick,Tatsuki Koyama,Kang-Hsien Fan,Peter C. Albertsen,Michael Goodman,Ann S. Hamilton,Richard M. Hoffman,Arnold L. Potosky,Janet L. Stanford,Antoinette M. Stroup,R. Lawrence Van Horn,David F. Penson +11 more
TL;DR: Men treated for localized prostate cancer commonly had declines in all functional domains during 15 years of follow-up, and no significant relative differences in disease-specific functional outcomes were observed among men undergoing prostatectomy or radiotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic and Pathogenetic Value of Combining Clinical and Biochemical Indices in Patients With Acute Lung Injury
Lorraine B. Ware,Tatsuki Koyama,Dean Billheimer,William Wu,Gordon R. Bernard,B. Taylor Thompson,Roy G. Brower,Theodore J. Standiford,Thomas R. Martin,Michael A. Matthay +9 more
TL;DR: Clinical predictors predicted mortality with an area under the ROC curve of 0.82 and the best performing biomarkers were the neutrophil chemotactic factor, IL-8, and SP-D, supporting the concept that acute inflammation and alveolar epithelial injury are important pathogenetic pathways in human ALI/ARDS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association Between Radiation Therapy, Surgery, or Observation for Localized Prostate Cancer and Patient-Reported Outcomes After 3 Years
Daniel A. Barocas,JoAnn Alvarez,Matthew J. Resnick,Tatsuki Koyama,Karen E. Hoffman,Mark D. Tyson,Ralph Conwill,Dan McCollum,Matthew R. Cooperberg,Michael Goodman,Sheldon Greenfield,Ann S. Hamilton,Mia Hashibe,Sherrie H. Kaplan,Lisa E. Paddock,Antoinette M. Stroup,Xiao-Cheng Wu,David F. Penson,David F. Penson +18 more
TL;DR: Radical prostatectomy was associated with a greater decrease in sexual function and urinary incontinence after 3 years and was related with fewer urinary irritative symptoms than active surveillance; however, no meaningful differences existed in either bowel or hormonal function beyond 12 months or in in other domains of health-related quality-of-life measures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Severity scoring of lung oedema on the chest radiograph is associated with clinical outcomes in ARDS.
Melissa A. Warren,Zhiguou Zhao,Tatsuki Koyama,Julie A. Bastarache,Ciara M. Shaver,Matthew W. Semler,Todd W. Rice,Michael A. Matthay,Carolyn S. Calfee,Carolyn S. Calfee,Lorraine B. Ware +10 more
TL;DR: The RALE score can be used to assess both the extent of pulmonary oedema and the severity of ARDS, by utilising information that is already obtained routinely, safely and inexpensively in every patient with ARDS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarkers of lung epithelial injury and inflammation distinguish severe sepsis patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome
Lorraine B. Ware,Tatsuki Koyama,Zhiguo Zhao,David R. Janz,Nancy Wickersham,Gordon R. Bernard,Addison K. May,Carolyn S. Calfee,Michael A. Matthay +8 more
TL;DR: Altered levels of plasma biomarkers may be useful biologic confirmation of the diagnosis of ARDS in patients with sepsis, and also potentially for selecting patients for clinical trials that are designed to reduce lung epithelial injury.
