TL;DR: The genome sequence of Atlantic cod is presented, showing evidence for complex thermal adaptations in its haemoglobin gene cluster and an unusual immune architecture compared to other sequenced vertebrates.
Journal ArticleDOI
A sexually selected character displacement in flycatchers reinforces premating isolation
TL;DR: In populations where two species coexist, it is shown that female choice selects for a divergence in male plumage colour and that the resulting character displacement reduces the frequency of hybridization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polymorphisms at codons 141 and 154 in the ovine prion protein gene are associated with scrapie Nor98 cases.
Truls Moum,Ingrid Olsaker,Petter Hopp,Torfinn Moldal,Mette Valheim,Torbjørn Moum,Sylvie L. Benestad +6 more
TL;DR: This study investigated the distribution of PrP genotypes among Nor98 cases, their flock-mates and a random sample of Norwegian slaughtered sheep to find a leucine/phenylalanine polymorphism at codon 141 with hitherto unknown significance to scrapie.
Journal ArticleDOI
Speciation, introgressive hybridization and nonlinear rate of molecular evolution in flycatchers.
Glenn-Peter Sætre,Thomas Borge,Thomas Borge,Johan Lindell,Truls Moum,Craig R. Primmer,Ben C. Sheldon,Jon Haavie,Arild Johnsen,Hans Ellegren +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the observed deviation from linearity can be explained by a more rapid mutational saturation of the mtDNA sequences than of the nuclear DNA sequences, as supported by analyses of third codon position transversions at two protein coding mtDNA genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clutch-Size Determination in Precocial Birds: A Study of the Common Eider
TL;DR: A new hypothesis is outlined that combines several earlier ideas to show that clutch-size determination could be affected by an interaction of female body condition, egg predation, and parental care, and that females use a particular clutch- sizes related to their body condition and ability to care for young.
