Rapid intercontinental air pollution transport associated with a meteorological bomb
Andreas Stohl,Heidi Huntrieser,Andreas Richter,Steffen Beirle,Owen R. Cooper,Sabine Eckhardt,Caroline Forster,P. James,N. Spichtinger,Mark Wenig,Thomas Wagner,John P. Burrows,Ulrich Platt +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an extraordinary episode in November 2001 is presented, where pollution transport across the North Atlantic took only about one day, and the transport mechanism, termed here an intercontinental pollution express highway because of the high wind speeds, was exceptional, as it involved an explosively generated cyclone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hydrogen peroxide, organic peroxides, carbonyl compounds, and organic acids measured at Pabstthum during BERLIOZ
D. Grossmann,Geert K. Moortgat,M. Kibler,S. Schlomski,K. Bächmann,B. Alicke,A. Geyer,Ulrich Platt,M.-U. Hammer,Bernhard Vogel,D. Mihelcic,Andreas Hofzumahaus,Frank Holland,Andreas Volz-Thomas +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, gas phase H2O2, organic peroxides, carbonyl compounds, and carboxylic acids were measured from mid-July to early August 1998 during the Berlin ozone (BERLIOZ) campaign in Pabstthum, Germany.
Journal ArticleDOI
Absorption of Solar Radiation by Atmospheric O4
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the absorption of the oxygen collision complex (O2) leads to a globally averaged clear sky shortwave (SW) heating of about 0.53 W m−2.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of measurements and model calculations of stratospheric bromine monoxide
Björn-Martin Sinnhuber,Björn-Martin Sinnhuber,D. W. Arlander,Heinrich Bovensmann,John P. Burrows,Martyn P. Chipperfield,Carl-Fredrik Enell,Udo Frieß,François Hendrick,Paul Johnston,Roderic L. Jones,Karin Kreher,N. Mohamed-Tahrin,Richard Müller,Klaus Pfeilsticker,Ulrich Platt,Jean-Pierre Pommereau,I. Pundt,Andreas Richter,A. M. South,K. K. Tørnkvist,M. Van Roozendael,Tanja Wagner,Folkard Wittrock +23 more
TL;DR: In this paper, ground-based zenith sky UV-visible measurements of stratospheric bromine monoxide (BrO) slant column densities are compared with simulations from the SLIMCAT three-dimensional chemical transport model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ground-based imaging differential optical absorption spectroscopy of atmospheric gases.
TL;DR: A compact remote-sensing instrument that permits spatially resolved mapping of atmospheric trace gases by passive differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS) is described and the first applications of imaging of the nitrogen dioxide contents of the exhaust plumes of two industrial emitters are presented.
