Evaluating the Contribution of the Cause of Kidney Disease to Prognosis in CKD: Results From the Study of Heart and Renal Protection (SHARP)
Richard Haynes,Natalie Staplin,Jonathan Emberson,William G. Herrington,Charles R.V. Tomson,Lawrence Y. Agodoa,Vladimir Tesar,Adeera Levin,David Lewis,Christina Reith,Colin Baigent,Martin J Landray +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the relevance of the cause of kidney disease to prognosis among patients with chronic kidney disease is uncertain, however, the authors found that patients with cystic kidney disease are at much higher risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and much lower risk of death before ESRD.
Original Investigation Evaluating the Contribution of the Cause of Kidney Disease to Prognosis in CKD: Results From the Study of Heart and Renal Protection (SHARP)
Richard Haynes,Natalie Staplin,Jonathan Emberson,William G. Herrington,Charles R.V. Tomson,Lawrence Y. Agodoa,Vladimir Tesar,Adeera Levin,David Lewis,Christina Reith,Colin Baigent,Martin J Landray +11 more
TL;DR: Patients with cystic kidney disease are at much higher risk of end-stage renal disease (and much lower risk of death before ESRD) than other patients, and patients with diabetic nephropathy are at particularly high risk of life-threatening death prior to reaching E SRD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characteristics and Outcomes of Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis (Wegener) and Microscopic Polyangiitis Requiring Renal Replacement Therapy: Results From the European Renal Association–European Dialysis and Transplant Association Registry
Zdenka Hruskova,Vianda S. Stel,David Jayne,Knut Aasarød,Johan De Meester,Agneta Ekstrand,Kathrin Eller,James G. Heaf,Andries J. Hoitsma,Carmen Martos Jimenéz,Pietro Ravani,Christoph Wanner,Vladimir Tesar,Kitty J. Jager +13 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that patients with AAV are suitable candidates for kidney transplantation with favorable survival outcomes, and Geographical differences in the incidence of RRT for kidney failure due to granulomatosis with polyangiitis and microscopic polyang iitis copied their distribution in the general population.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized trial of mycophenolate mofetil versus cyclophosphamide for remission induction of ANCA-associated vasculitis: “MYCYC”. On behalf of the European vasculitis study group
Rachel B Jones,Lorraine Harper,J. Ballarin,Daniel Engelbert Blockmans,Paul A. Brogan,Annette Bruchfeld,Maria C. Cid,K. Dahlsveen,J. Dezoysa,Peter Lanyon,Chen Au Peh,Vladimir Tesar,Augusto Vaglio,Michael Walsh,D Walsh,Giles Walters,D. R. W. Jayne +16 more
TL;DR: In refractory Takayasu arteritis, TNFa and IL6R blockade proved an effective option and it is proposed to use biologics ahead of cyclophosphamide in these young patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement of damage in systemic vasculitis: a comparison of the Vasculitis Damage Index with the Combined Damage Assessment Index
Ravi Suppiah,Oliver Flossmann,Chetan Mukhtyar,Federico Alberici,Bo Baslund,Denise Brown,Nadeem Hasan,Julia U Holle,Zdenka Hruskova,David Jayne,Andrew Judge,Mark A. Little,Peter A. Merkel,Alessandra Palmisano,Philip Seo,Coen A. Stegeman,Vladimir Tesar,Augusto Vaglio,Kerstin Westman,Raashid Luqmani +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare the Vasculitis Damage Index (VDI) with the Combined Damage Assessment Index (CDA) as measures of damage from vasculitis, and find that the CDA captures more detail but is more complex and less practical than the VDI.
