Forest fire induces short-term shifts in soil food webs with consequences for carbon cycling
Konstantin B. Gongalsky,Konstantin B. Gongalsky,Andrey S. Zaitsev,Andrey S. Zaitsev,Andrey S. Zaitsev,Daniil I. Korobushkin,Ruslan A. Saifutdinov,Ruslan A. Saifutdinov,Konstantin O. Yazrikova,Volkmar Wolters,Richard D. Bardgett +20 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that fire-induced shifts in soil food webs have significant short-term effects on forest soil C cycling, but that these effects vary across forest types and geographic locations.
Book ChapterDOI
Landscape effects on the genetic structure of the ground beetle Poecilus versicolor STURM 1824
TL;DR: The local population genetic structure of a widespread and highly mobile species as P. versicolor is strongly affected by the amount of suitable habitat in a landscape of large habitat proportion, which offers a powerful way for analysing effects on genetic diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deep drilling reveals massive shifts in evolutionary dynamics after formation of ancient ecosystem
Thomas Wilke,Torsten Hauffe,Elena Jovanovska,Aleksandra Cvetkoska,Timme H. Donders,Klemens Ekschmitt,Alexander Francke,Jack H. Lacey,Zlatko Levkov,Charles R. Marshall,Thomas A. Neubauer,Thomas A. Wesselingh,Volkmar Wolters,Giovanni Zanchetta,Xiaosen Zhang,Bernd Wagner +39 more
TL;DR: It is shown that speciation and extinction rates nearly simultaneously decreased in the environmentally dynamic phase after ecosystem formation and stabilized after deep-water conditions established in Lake Ohrid, resulting in a transition from a volatile assemblage of short-lived endemic species to a stable community of long-lived species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body mass changes in male Daubenton's bats Myotis daubentonii (Chiroptera, Vespertilionidae) during the seasonal activity period
TL;DR: During the months July, August, and September, body mass of adult males was significantly higher than that of juveniles, whereas in October the difference was no longer of statistical significance, it is suggested that the decrease in body mass observed in some adult males in September was related to their reproductive activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regional Patterns of Ecosystem Services in Cultural Landscapes
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assessed the spatial distribution of the services carbon storage, sediment regulation, water yield, crop production, timber supply, and outdoor recreation in the counties Wetterau and Vogelsberg (Hesse, Germany).
