TL;DR: Providing early diagnosis and effective treatment substantially decreased village-level incidence of artemisinin-resistant P falciparum malaria in hard-to-reach, politically sensitive regions of eastern Myanmar.
Journal ArticleDOI
Performance of a High-Sensitivity Rapid Diagnostic Test for Plasmodium falciparum Malaria in Asymptomatic Individuals from Uganda and Myanmar and Naive Human Challenge Infections
Smita Das,Ihn Kyung Jang,Becky Barney,Roger Peck,John Rek,Emmanuel Arinaitwe,Harriet Adrama,Maxwell Murphy,Mallika Imwong,Clare Ling,Stephane Proux,Warat Haohankhunnatham,Melissa J Rist,Annette M. Domingo +25 more
TL;DR: The Ultra Sensitive rapid diagnostic test (uRDT) has the same workflow as currently available RDTs, but improved performance characteristics to identify asymptomatic malaria infections and may be a useful tool for malaria elimination strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contribution of Asymptomatic Plasmodium Infections to the Transmission of Malaria in Kayin State, Myanmar

TL;DR: Asymptomatic infections are a major source of malaria transmission in Southeast Asia and the impact of MDA on entomological indices has not been characterized previously.
Journal ArticleDOI
Operational Performance of a Plasmodium falciparum Ultrasensitive Rapid Diagnostic Test for Detection of Asymptomatic Infections in Eastern Myanmar
Jordi Landier,Warat Haohankhunnatham,Smita Das,Kamonchanok Konghahong,Peter R. Domingo,Gilles Delmas,Gilles Delmas,François Nosten,François Nosten +19 more
TL;DR: An HRP2-based ultrasensitive RDT developed to improve the detection of low-density infections was evaluated during prevalence surveys within a malaria elimination program in a low-transmission area of eastern Myanmar and shows promising characteristics for the identification of high-prevalence communities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simultaneous Quantification of Plasmodium Antigens and Host Factor C-Reactive Protein in Asymptomatic Individuals with Confirmed Malaria by Use of a Novel Multiplex Immunoassay

McCarthy,François Nosten,François Nosten,Bryan Greenhouse,Gonzalo J. Domingo +28 more
TL;DR: A multiplexed immunoassay for the quantification of HRP2, P. vivax LDH, and all-malaria LDH was developed to accurately measure circulating antigen concentration and antigen distribution in a population with endemic malaria.
