Preservation of Memory With Conformal Avoidance of the Hippocampal Neural Stem-Cell Compartment During Whole-Brain Radiotherapy for Brain Metastases (RTOG 0933): A Phase II Multi-Institutional Trial
Vinai Gondi,Stephanie L. Pugh,Wolfgang A. Tomé,Chip Caine,Ben W Corn,Andrew A. Kanner,Howard A. Rowley,Vijayananda Kundapur,Albert S. DeNittis,Jeffrey Greenspoon,Andre Konski,Glenn Bauman,Sunjay Shah,Wenyin Shi,Merideth M Wendland,Lisa A. Kachnic,Minesh P. Mehta +16 more
TL;DR: Conformal avoidance of the hippocampus during WBRT is associated with preservation of memory and QOL as compared with historical series.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hippocampal Avoidance During Whole-Brain Radiotherapy Plus Memantine for Patients With Brain Metastases: Phase III Trial NRG Oncology CC001.
Paul D. Brown,Vinai Gondi,Stephanie L. Pugh,Wolfgang A. Tomé,Jeffrey S. Wefel,Terri Armstrong,Joseph Bovi,Cliff G. Robinson,Andre Konski,Deepak Khuntia,David R. Grosshans,Tammie L.S. Benzinger,Deborah Watkins Bruner,Mark R. Gilbert,David Roberge,Vijayananda Kundapur,Kiran Devisetty,Sunjay Shah,Kenneth Y. Usuki,Bethany Anderson,Baldassarre Stea,Harold Yoon,Jing Li,Nadia N. Laack,Tim J. Kruser,Steven J. Chmura,Wenyin Shi,Snehal Deshmukh,Minesh P. Mehta,Lisa A. Kachnic +29 more
TL;DR: HA-WBRT plus memantine better preserves cognitive function and patient-reported symptoms, with no difference in intracranial PFS and OS, and should be considered a standard of care for patients with good performance status who plan to receive WBRT for brain metastases with no metastases in the HA region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeting metabolism with a ketogenic diet during the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme.
Colin E. Champ,Colin E. Champ,Joshua D. Palmer,Jeff S. Volek,Maria Werner-Wasik,David W. Andrews,James J. Evans,Jon Glass,Lyndon Kim,Wenyin Shi +9 more
TL;DR: A KD appears safe and well tolerated during the standard treatment of GBM, and dietary restriction of carbohydrates through a KD reduces serum glucose levels significantly, even in conjunction with high dose steroids, which may affect the response to standard treatment and prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tumor localization using cone-beam CT reduces setup margins in conventionally fractionated radiotherapy for lung tumors
Anamaria R. Yeung,Jonathan G. Li,Wenyin Shi,Heather E. Newlin,A Chvetsov,Chihray Liu,Jatinder R. Palta,Kenneth R. Olivier +7 more
TL;DR: Using daily CBCT soft-tissue registration to localize the tumor in conventionally fractionated radiotherapy reduced the required setup margin by up to approximately 1.5 cm compared with both no image guidance and image guidance using bony anatomy as a surrogate for the target.
Journal Article
Dual targeting of tumor vasculature: combining Avastin and vascular disrupting agents (CA4P or OXi4503).
Dietmar W. Siemann,Wenyin Shi +1 more
TL;DR: Vascular-directed therapies that include both antiangiogenic and vascular disrupting therapeutics can result in significantly enhanced antitumor effects.
