Journal ArticleDOI
New tools for automated high-resolution cryo-EM structure determination in RELION-3.
Jasenko Zivanov,Takanori Nakane,Björn O. Forsberg,Dari Kimanius,Wim J. H. Hagen,Erik Lindahl,Erik Lindahl,Sjors H.W. Scheres +7 more
TL;DR: CPU-based vector acceleration has been added in addition to GPU support, which provides flexibility in use of resources and avoids memory limitations in the third major release of RELION.
Peer ReviewDOI
Author response: New tools for automated high-resolution cryo-EM structure determination in RELION-3
Jasenko Zivanov,Takanori Nakane,Björn O. Forsberg,Dari Kimanius,Wim J. H. Hagen,Erik Lindahl,Erik Lindahl,Sjors H.W. Scheres +7 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Implementation of a cryo-electron tomography tilt-scheme optimized for high resolution subtomogram averaging.
TL;DR: A “dose-symmetric tilt-scheme” that begins at low tilt and then alternates between increasingly positive and negative tilts maximizes the amount of high-resolution information maintained in the tomogram for subsequent subtomogram averaging, and may also be advantageous for other applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
In situ structural analysis of SARS-CoV-2 spike reveals flexibility mediated by three hinges.
Beata Turoňová,Beata Turoňová,Mateusz Sikora,Christoph Schürmann,Wim J. H. Hagen,Sonja Welsch,Florian Blanc,Sören von Bülow,Michael Gecht,Katrin Bagola,Cindy Hörner,Ger van Zandbergen,Ger van Zandbergen,Jonathan J M Landry,Nayara Trevisan Doimo de Azevedo,Shyamal Mosalaganti,Shyamal Mosalaganti,Andre Schwarz,Roberto Covino,Roberto Covino,Michael D. Mühlebach,Gerhard Hummer,Gerhard Hummer,Jacomine Krijnse Locker,Martin Beck,Martin Beck +25 more
TL;DR: The stalk domain of S contains three hinges, giving the head unexpected orientational freedom and it is proposed that the hinges allow S to scan the host cell surface, shielded from antibodies by an extensive glycan coat.
Journal ArticleDOI
An atomic model of HIV-1 capsid-SP1 reveals structures regulating assembly and maturation
Florian K. M. Schur,Martin Obr,Martin Obr,Wim J. H. Hagen,William Wan,Arjen J. Jakobi,Joanna M. Kirkpatrick,Carsten Sachse,Hans-Georg Kräusslich,Hans-Georg Kräusslich,John A. G. Briggs +10 more
TL;DR: Improved cryo-electron tomography and subtomogram averaging show how HIV maturation inhibitor drugs may work and suggest that MIs prevent CA-SP1 cleavage by stabilizing the structure, and MI resistance develops by destabilizing CA- SP1.
