A Protein-Truncating HSD17B13 Variant and Protection from Chronic Liver Disease
Noura S. Abul-Husn,Xiping Cheng,Alexander H. Li,Yurong Xin,Claudia Schurmann,Panayiotis Stevis,Yashu Liu,Julia Kozlitina,Stefan Stender,G. Craig Wood,Ann Stepanchick,Matthew D. Still,Shane McCarthy,Colm O'Dushlaine,Jonathan S. Packer,Suganthi Balasubramanian,Nehal Gosalia,David Esopi,Sun Y. Kim,Semanti Mukherjee,Alexander E. Lopez,Erin D. Fuller,John Penn,Xin Chu,Jonathan Z. Luo,Uyenlinh L. Mirshahi,David J. Carey,Christopher D. Still,Michael Feldman,Aeron Small,Scott M. Damrauer,Daniel J. Rader,Brian Zambrowicz,William C. Olson,Andrew J. Murphy,Ingrid B. Borecki,Alan R. Shuldiner,Jeffrey G. Reid,John D. Overton,George D. Yancopoulos,Helen H. Hobbs,Jonathan C. Cohen,Omri Gottesman,Tanya M. Teslovich,Aris Baras,Tooraj Mirshahi,Jesper Gromada,Frederick E. Dewey +47 more
TL;DR: A loss‐of‐function variant in HSD17B13 was associated with a reduced risk of chronic liver disease and of progression from steatosis to steatohepatitis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cellular mechanism of insulin resistance in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Naoki Kumashiro,Derek M. Erion,Dongyan Zhang,Mario Kahn,Sara A. Beddow,Xin Chu,Christopher D. Still,Glenn S. Gerhard,Xianlin Han,James Dziura,Kitt Falk Petersen,Varman T. Samuel,Gerald I. Shulman +12 more
TL;DR: Data show that hepatic DAG content in lipid droplets is the best predictor of insulin resistance in humans, and they support the hypothesis that NAFLD-associated hepatic insulin resistance is caused by an increase in hepaticDAG content, which results in activation of PKCε.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel TRPM2 isoform inhibits calcium influx and susceptibility to cell death.
Wenyi Zhang,Xin Chu,Qin Tong,Joseph Y. Cheung,Kathleen Conrad,Kathryn Masker,Barbara A. Miller +6 more
TL;DR: Exposure of TRPM2-S to HEK 293T cells inhibited susceptibility to cell death and onset of apoptosis induced by H2O2 in cells expressing TR PM2-L, and data demonstrate that TRPM 2-S is an important physiologic isoform ofTRPM2 and modulates channel activity and induction of cell death by oxidative stress through TRPM1-L.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monodisperse Au–Fe2C Janus Nanoparticles: An Attractive Multifunctional Material for Triple-Modal Imaging-Guided Tumor Photothermal Therapy
Yanmin Ju,Huilin Zhang,Jing Yu,Shiyan Tong,Ning Tian,Zhiyi Wang,Xiaobai Wang,Xintai Su,Xin Chu,Jian Lin,Ya Ding,Gongjie Li,Fugeng Sheng,Yanglong Hou +13 more
TL;DR: Monodisperse Au-Fe2C Janus nanoparticles of 12 nm, used as a multifunctional nanoplatform, allow the combination of multiple-model imaging techniques and high therapeutic efficacy and have great potential for precision theranostic nanomedicines.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fasting hyperglycemia is not associated with increased expression of PEPCK or G6Pc in patients with Type 2 Diabetes
Varman T. Samuel,Sara A. Beddow,Takanori Iwasaki,Xian-Man Zhang,Xin Chu,Christopher D. Still,Glenn S. Gerhard,Gerald I. Shulman +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that increased transcriptional expression of PEPCK1 and G6Pc does not account for increased gluconeogenesis and fasting hyperglycemia in patients with T2DM.
