01 Nov 2017TL;DR: The random behavior of network delays is studied by tracking the variation in One-Way Delay (OWD) using a scheme that does not assume synchronization between network hosts and an adequate model for OWD variations is provided.
Abstract: Understanding the behavior of network delay serves a very important role in network performance and thus application design. While traversing the network, packets incur random delays due to unpredictable behavior of network. Consequently, network delays may fluctuate rapidly and significantly over small intervals of time. This eccentric variation (jitter) in network delay makes it difficult to provide high quality real-time services. In this paper we study the random behavior of network delays by tracking the variation in One-Way Delay (OWD). Specifically, we accurately measure OWD variations using a scheme that does not assume synchronization between network hosts. Then we provide an adequate model for OWD variations. Also, we explore the degree of dependency between forward and reverse OWD variations by investigating their cross-correlation.

TL;DR: In this article, a secure-aware IBFD-based routing protocol is proposed to mitigate the effects of jamming attacks on cognitive radio (CR) systems by considering the unique characteristics of the CRN environment.
Abstract: Recent developments in self-interference cancellation (SIC) techniques have made in-band full-duplex (IBFD) transmission systems possible. IBFD technology can enhance, or theoretically speaking double, spectrum utilization by allowing simultaneous transmission and reception using the same radio-frequency channel. Integrating the IBFD technology in cognitive radio (CR) systems can further enhance spectrum utilization and provide huge spectrum opportunities for efficient deployment of next-generation multi-hop wireless systems. Routing protocols for typical CR networks (CRNs) assume that CR users are equipped with half-duplex receivers. Limited number of protocols have been designed for FD-based CRNs. However, these protocols do not account for security threats in wireless environment, which could significantly affect system performance. In this paper, we develop a security-aware intelligent routing scheme that aims at mitigating the effects of jamming attacks on IBFD CRNs. This scheme considers the unique characteristics of the CRN environment while being IBFD-aware. Specifically, it considers the primary user’s channel-availability time, channel quality and jamming strategy. For a source-destination pair, our protocol collects a set of loop-free paths. Then, it attempts to assign channels for the hops along each path with the goal of achieving the highest Probability of Success (PoS) of each path. The per-hop channel selection for each path is derived as an optimization problem, for which sub-optimal solutions are found using a polynomial-time approximate method. Based on the computed channel assignment and PoS over each path, the path with the highest PoS between the source and destination is selected. Simulation results show that our secure-aware IBFD-based routing can significantly mitigate the jamming effects on CRN performance by improving the packet-delivery ratio, and consequently network throughput compared with existing FD-based routing protocols.

01 Jul 2019TL;DR: The authors explored the quality of the educational public relations curriculum, training and taught courses in Libyan universities by focusing on the perceptions of Libyan PR's academic professionals and senior PR students, covering roughly more than a quarter-century of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Abstract: Public relations in Libya is very much a new phenomenon, even compared with other Arab countries, although there are PR practices growing in tandem with some large local businesses and organisations. Based on the assumption that PR continues to play a vital role in communities and businesses, it is important to reconsider and evaluate its practices regularly, especially in terms of teaching and skills (including its curriculum). This study explores the quality of the educational PR curriculum, training and taught courses in Libyan universities by focusing on the perceptions of Libyan PR’s academic professionals and senior PR students, covering roughly more than a quarter-century of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It examines how university PR students are taught, what strategies and modules are applied and how professionals and students evaluate the PR curriculum and their practical advantages. Based on a survey (N=367) and interview (N=15) approach, the overall findings revealed that the PR curriculum needed to be updated and that PR should be recognised as a practical, not a theoretical, subject and should have its own union helping to provide more training programmes in an updated setting.

TL;DR: A new novel enhancement and detection cancerous nodule algorithm is proposed to diagnose a CT-images and shows a high sensitivity in detecting the cancerous lung nodules with TP ration 97% and with FP ratio 25 cluster/image.
Abstract: Diagnosis the computed tomography images (CT-images) is one of the images that may take a lot of time in diagnosis by the radiologist and may miss some of cancerous nodules in these images. Therefore, in this paper a new novel enhancement and detection cancerous nodule algorithm is proposed to diagnose a CT-images. The novel algorithm is divided into three main stages. In first stage, suspicious regions are enhanced using modified LoG algorithm. Then in stage two, a potential cancerous nodule was detected based on visual appearance in lung. Finally, five texture features analysis algorithm is implemented to reduce number of detected FP regions. This algorithm is evaluated using 60 cases (normal and cancerous cases), and it shows a high sensitivity in detecting the cancerous lung nodules with TP ration 97% and with FP ratio 25 cluster/image.

01 Dec 2019TL;DR: The objective of this study is to understand the factors that contribute to students’ involvement in online courses and to predict community satisfaction with this modern approach of education and to create a connection between community satisfaction (CS) and Factors influencing education and e-learning technology (EET) among students in higher education universities in the United Arab Emirates.
Abstract: The objective of this study is to understand the factors that contribute to students’ involvement in online courses and to predict community satisfaction with this modern approach of education. By providing an opportunity to listen to students’ online experiences, this study highlights students’ experiences in receiving online courses in UAE universities. It is critical that we remain to rise developed teaching in conducts that enhance the effectiveness of Forms of student involvement. Student participation is particularly significant in with regard to online-supported learning, given the assessments associated with it, on the other hand, The purpose of this research is to focus and create a connection between community Satisfaction (CS) and Factors influencing education and e-learning technology (EET) among students in higher education universities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE); it is possible to create recommendations for enthusiastic trainers and educational designers; Improve students’ participation in their online courses. Student participation is also essential for students to learn and succeed in online sessions. this study also describes the impact of information technology on the participation of UAE universities and used the online community and surveyed the scope of participation to share student testing in three types of interactions, student instructor (SI), student content (SC), and student information technology (SIT) in undergraduate and postgraduate, courses online highlighted the results of the factors analysis highlighted the factors that contribute to the interaction of the student and the teacher and interaction with the student’s content. Data from 439 students at UAE universities were used and community satisfaction (CS) was predicted after a series of analysis, which showed that there was a positive relationship between CS and the factors that create EET.
