TL;DR: The increasing traffic of motorboats, allied to the lack of normative rules and effective law enforcement assuring the protection of specific areas, represent a direct risk to the conservation of Antillean manatees living in the Northeastern coast of Brazil.
Abstract: Borges, J.C.G., Vergara-Parente, J.E., Alvite, C.M.C., Marcondes, M.C.C & Lima, R.P. Motorboat: a threat to Antillean manatees (Trichechus manatus) in Brazil. Biota Neotrop. Sep/Dez 2007 vol. 7, no. 3 http://www. biotaneotropica.org.br/v7n3/pt/abstract?article+bn03607032007. ISSN 1676-0603. The increasing traffic of motorboats on feeding, resting and reproduction areas used by manatees causing serious problems for these animals, so scaring them away and leading to potential collisions. The purpose of this study was to describe cases interaction between boat and Antillean manatees (Trichechus manatus) living in the Northeastern coast of Brazil. These interactions took place in the State of Ceara, Paraiba and Sergipe, involving three specimens, one of them with four records. Clinical alterations were observed, such as edema in the frontal part of the body, ocular proptosis, weight loss and multiple cuts all over the body. Therefore, the increasing traffic of motorboats, allied to the lack of normative rules and effective law enforcement assuring the protection of specific areas, represent a direct risk to the conservation of Antillean manatees living in the Northeastern coast of Brazil.

TL;DR: The ability of young plants of the brown alga Padina gymnospora to tolerate and accumulate zinc was determined for different zinc concentrations in seawater over a period of 21 days.
Abstract: The ability of young plants of the brown alga Padina gymnospora to tolerate and accumulate zinc was determined for different zinc concentrations in seawater over a period of 21 days. This species, among 10 macroalgae species studied in a contaminated coastal area near Rio de Janeiro city, presented the highest zinc contents. The accumulation of zinc by this species determined from in vitro experiments increased approximately linearly with the zinc concentration in the water. A steady state was not reached even for high concentrations (1000 µg 1-1). Analytical electron microscopy techniques used for subcellular localization of this metal showed that the zinc was present as dense granules along the cell walls, starting in a region 15 to 25 cells away from the thallus apex, but being absent in the cytoplasm of viable cells. It is suggested that the cell walls play the main role in the zinc accumulation in Padina gymnospora.

TL;DR: Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) are cleaned and followed by reef fishes at Fernando de Noronha Archipelago, off northeast Brazil, during foraging.
Abstract: Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) are cleaned and followed by reef fishes at Fernando de Noronha Archipelago, off northeast Brazil. During foraging, turtles are cleaned by damselfishes (Abudefduf saxatilis and Stegastes rocasensis), and followed by juvenile wrasses (Thalassoma noronhanum and Halichoeres radiatus).

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the impact of agrotoxicos on the socio-economic and environmental aspects of agroforestry in sistemas orgânicos e convencionais.

TL;DR: Yield-per-rccruit analysis shows that the stocks are being exploited near to limit of sustainability.
