TL;DR: Prevalence of celiac disease was higher in patients with ulcerative colitis than in those with Crohn's disease and the risk of Celiac disease in this cohort of inflammatory bowel disease patients was lower than in the general population.

TL;DR: Multivariate analysis on a total of 30 RS patients confirmed that the probability of transformation is strongly associated with G allele, likely representing an independent risk factor for RS development.

TL;DR: CASR testing, with functional analysis, provides critical confirmatory evidence in the differential diagnosis of hypercalcemic states in patients presenting at a single endocrine clinic.
Abstract: Context: Inactivating mutations of the calcium-sensing receptor (CASR) are implicated in different hypercalcemic syndromes, including familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH), primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), and familial isolated hyperparathyroidism (FIHP). However, molecular diagnostics applied to large nonselected hypercalcemic cohorts from a single center have not been reported. Objective: Our objective was to describe the prevalence, type, and potential pathogenicity of CASR mutations in a series of cases with FHH (n = 17), PHPT (n = 165), and FIHP (n = 3) and controls (n = 198) presenting at a single endocrine clinic. Subjects: All were prospectively evaluated at the “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza” Hospital in southern Italy over a 3-yr period. Methods: CASR screening was conducted by denaturing HPLC. The variant CASRs were functionally characterized by transient transfection studies in kidney cells in vitro. Results: A single novel missense variant was identified in one PHPT case. However, in...

TL;DR: The results of the fMRI study suggest the possibility that top-down modulation of attention or cognitive control at encoding and/or decisionmaking may be mediated by prefrontal cortex locales that are selectively load sensitive, delay sensitive, or both.
Abstract: Earlier neuroimaging studies of working memory (WM) have demonstrated that dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) activity increases as maintenance and load demand increases. However, few studies have carefully disambiguated these two WM processes at the behavioral and physiological levels. The objective of the present functional resonance imaging (fMRI) study was to map within prefrontal cortex locales that are selectively load sensitive, delay sensitive, or both. We studied 18 right-handed normal subjects with fMRI at 3 Tesla during a block design version of the Sternberg task. WM load was manipulated by varying the memory set size (3, 5, or 8 letters). The effect of memory maintenance was examined by employing two time delays (1 s and 6 s) between the letter set and probe stimuli. The DLPFC was strongly activated in load manipulation, whereas activation as a function of delay was restricted to the left premotor regions and Broca's areas. Moreover, regions of prefrontal cortex on the right (BA 46) were found to be exclusively affected by load. These results suggest the possibility that top–down modulation of attention or cognitive control at encoding and/or decisionmaking may be mediated by these areas.

TL;DR: Under the study conditions the combination of VNR or GEM with the same dose and schedule of CP produced similar OR, clinical benefits, TTP and OS in advanced NSCLC, and only mild toxicological differences were observed.
