Abstract: A reset lockout addition to an A.C. overload current sensing, remote power controller of minimum size and weight and integral construction. Current rate sensing wound toroids are used that are small enough to fit around the line terminal studs without having to enlarge prior insulator space available therein. The electronic overload current detecting and tripping control circuit, is replaced by a pair of modules, detector and control modules, having improved performance and a shape and size such that they fit within the relay housing alongside its operating magnet. The detector module has integrator means for converting current rate of change signals into magnitude indicative signals thereby enabling use therewith of rate sensing wound toroids of about one-tenth the size of equivalent current transformer wound toroids. It fully meets the calibrated step function overload trip time requirements while also providing protection for unusual overload conditions such as varying overloads including pulse accumulation effects or repetitive reset, and simulates the response of a thermal element to prevent excess heating of the wire or load that it is protecting under any overload conditions. Moreover, the control module incorporates a single standard CMOS IC logic element that provides a digital solution to the combinations of control conditions requirements while at the same time reducing the number of conventionally-required cutthroat contacts from two to one and isolating the control input from the relay power circuit. Associated with this logic element is a reset lockout circuit responsive to overload trip that prevents resetting of the relay by the set control switch alone but requires an additional manual operation, that is, momentary opening of a reset switch in conjunction with the opening of the set control switch to reset the relay.

29 Mar 2001TL;DR: In this article, an exhaust chamber for an arc resistant cabinet directs high temperature, expanding gases away from locations where personnel are likely to be present, and the exhaust chamber may have an open top, directing gases outward through the center of the exhaust's top.
Abstract: An exhaust chamber for an arc resistant cabinet directs high temperature, expanding gases away from locations where personnel are likely to be present. The exhaust chamber may have an open top, directing gases outward through the center of the exhaust chamber's top. Alternatively, the exhaust chamber may be completely enclosed, directing expanding gases through a duct.

23 Sep 1982TL;DR: In this article, a shielding electrode is installed between first and second gate electrodes in a notch between laterally spaced source regions and channel regions joined by a common drift region around the bottom of the notch.
Abstract: Bidirectional power FET structure is disclosed with high OFF state voltage blocking capability. A shielding electrode is insulated between first and second gate electrodes in a notch between laterally spaced source regions and channel regions joined by a common drift region around the bottom of the notch. The shielding electrode is ohmically connected to the substrate containing the common drift region to be at the same potential level thereof and within a single junction drop of a respective main electrode across the junction between the respective channel containing region and drift region. The steering diode function for referencing the shielding electrode is performed by junctions already present in the integrated structure, eliminating the need for discrete dedicated steering diodes. The shielding electrode prevents the electric field gradient toward the gate electrode on one side of the notch from inducing depletion in the drift region along the opposite side of the notch. This prevents unwanted inducement of conduction channels in the drift region during the OFF state of the FET.

14 Oct 1988TL;DR: In this article, a motorized water valve of the butterfly-type having the motor case and gear reduction housing formed integrally with the valving chamber is used to control the cooling of the radiator.
Abstract: A motorized water valve of the butterfly-type having the motor case and gear reduction housing formed integrally with the valving chamber. The metal butterfly has elastomeric material formed thereover to provide improved sealing and prevent leakage when the valve is closed thereby enabling substantially shortened warm-up in thermostat application. The control system employs the valve at the engine block outlet to control coolant flow to the radiator in response to an electrical control signal based upon comparison of the sensed block temperature with a desired engine temperature. The control system also employs the valve to control coolant flow to the heater core in response to an electrical control signal based upon a comparison of sensed in-car temperature and a desired in-car temperature selectd by the driver. Heater core discharge air may also be sensed and included in the comparison to provide a control signal to permit automatic in-car temperature regulation. An additional control signal also be generated from the comparison to control heater blower speed control. The control system, upon cold engine starts, opens the radiator coolant valve fully for a short time to allow full flow to clean the valve and remove deposits, then returns to the closed position to continue engine warm-up. The control system may also employ an outside air temperature transducer to provide a signal used in the comparison to enable automatic regulation of desired engine coolant temperature.

11 Aug 1980TL;DR: In this article, a hydraulic lash adjusting tappet for direct-acting engine valve gear of the direct acting type is described, with one end of the tarpet contacting the end of combustion chamber valve stem and the other end contacting the cam-shaft lobe.
Abstract: A hydraulic lash adjusting tappet 10 for use in engine valve gear of the direct acting type having one end of the tappet contacting the end of the combustion chamber valve stem 26 and the other end contacting the cam-shaft lobe 16. The tappet has the body 40 formed with a tubular wall portion 42 having an inwardly extending web portion 44 intermediate the ends thereof with a tubular hub 46 disposed therewithin formed integrally with the web and extending axially therefrom. A cam face disc member 18 is attached about the periphery thereof to one end of the tubular wall. A plunger means 50 is slidably received in the tubular hub and includes a piston 64 slidable therein forming a high pressure chamber 86 within the plunger remote from the cam face and having therein one-way valve means for admitting fluid to the chamber for lash adjustment. An annular retainer 56 is received over the outward end of the hub and a passage 84 is provided through the tubular wall portion for communicating fluid to the reservoir.
