13 Aug 2009TL;DR: In this paper, a light source is combined with an optic and a reflector, and a reflected beam from the reflector is reflected into a predetermined reflection pattern, where the inner and outer surface of the optic is shaped to refract or direct light which is either transmitted into the optic from the light source from a first portion of light and/or reflected into the reflectors from the reflected beam into the predetermined beam.
Abstract: A light source is combined with an optic and a reflector. Light incident onto to the reflector is reflected with a single reflection. The reflector occupies a portion of a solid angle around the light source to the exclusion of the optic at least with respect to any optical function. The reflector directly receives a second portion of light. The optic occupies substantially all of the remaining portion of the predetermined solid angle to directly receive a first portion of light from the light source. A reflected beam from the reflector is reflected into a predetermined reflection pattern. The inner and/or outer surface of the optic is shaped to refract or direct light which is directly transmitted into the optic from the light source from a first portion of light and/or reflected into the optic from the reflector from the reflected beam into a predetermined beam.

04 Aug 1994TL;DR: In this paper, a transmission shifting system for a gear change transmission where an actuator responding to a control signal is used to axially displace a secondary shift rail thereby preloading a spring acting upon a primary shift rail where a coupling element permits relative motion between the SRS and the PRS until gear synchronization or a torque break occurs allowing the desired gear shift to occur.
Abstract: A transmission shifting system for a gear change transmission where an actuator responding to a control signal is used to axially displace a secondary shift rail thereby preloading a spring acting upon a primary shift rail where a coupling element permits relative motion between the secondary shift rail and the primary shift rail until gear synchronization or a torque break occurs allowing the desired gear shift to occur. The relative motion which results in a spring preload force to be generated on the primary shift rail continues until the secondary shift rail contacts the portion of the coupler adjacent to a primary flange formed as part of the primary shift rail whereupon the actuator is solidly linked to the shift rail and a shift fork.

TL;DR: In this article, a simple approach for estimating VRLA battery state of charge (SOC) and thus discharge reserve time during discharge over a wide range of operating and battery conditions is presented.
Abstract: The discharge reserve time of a valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) battery is dependent on both discharge operating conditions as well as battery condition. Operating conditions include discharge type and rate, ambient temperature and initial state of charge while battery conditions include battery state of health and battery type. For this reason determining the discharge reserve time can be a very complex problem. This paper presents a simple approach for estimating VRLA battery state of charge (SOC) and thus discharge reserve time during discharge over a wide range of operating and battery conditions. A discharge characteristic, referred to as the unified characteristic, is employed that is shown to be robust to variations in operating conditions as well as battery condition. Furthermore, the resulting accurate estimations of SOC (within 10%) and reserve time (within 10% from the early stages of the discharge) do not come at the cost of complexity.

30 Sep 2002TL;DR: In this paper, a method for dynamically controlling regenerating energy flow and direct current bus voltage for an adjustable frequency drive system includes sensing a direct current voltage of a directcurrent bus; and sensing a plurality of alternating currents at outputs of an inverter.
Abstract: A method for dynamically controlling regenerating energy flow and direct current bus voltage for an adjustable frequency drive system includes sensing a direct current voltage of a direct current bus; and sensing a plurality of alternating currents at outputs of an inverter. The sensed alternating currents are transformed to a stationary current vector. Voltage and frequency values are converted to a stationary voltage vector and an angle. The angle and the stationary current vector are transformed to a rotating current vector including torque and flux producing current components. An induction machine generating mode is determined when the torque producing current component reverses polarity. The voltage and frequency values limit the direct current voltage of the direct current bus at a predetermined threshold responsive to the generating mode. The stationary voltage vector and the angle are converted to pulse width modulated control inputs of the inverter.
