TL;DR: Research is reported which suggests that there are unintended side-effects upon childrens' conditional reasoning ability due to learning a procedural computer programming language.
Abstract: Recent research results having to do with explicit instruction in computer programming and cognitive skills indicate an increased emphasis upon the structure of the learning environment surrounding programming languages. A new research direction concerned with transfer effects due to environmental aspects of programming instruction is emerging. A conceptual analysis of the syntax and semantics of the IF-THEN [ELSE] conditional command is presented which suggests that mastering a procedural language itself (independent of environment) might have unintended, indirect, and potentially negative effects upon fundamental intellectual skills. Research is reported which suggests that there are unintended side-effects upon childrens' conditional reasoning ability due to learning a procedural computer programming language.

TL;DR: Weaver et al. as discussed by the authors described a massive uprising of Indians and castas in southern and eastern Guatemala (the montana) in 1837, led by Jose Rafael Carrera, a mestizo swineherd.
Abstract: Frederick Stirton Weaver is a professor of economics and history at Hampshire College. He thanks Carollee Bengelsdorf, Barbara Corbett, Chistopher Lutz, Roberto Márquez, the librarians at the Latin American Library at Tulane University, and especially Frank Holmquist and Sharon Hartman Strom for their help with this article. The research was partially supported by a Hewlett-Mellon Faculty Development Grant. Latin American Perspectives first received the manuscript for this article in July 1995. Jose Rafael Carrera, a mestizo swineherd, led a massive uprising of Indians and castas in southern and eastern Guatemala (the montana) in 1837. Local elites of European descent closed ranks against the common enemy, but Carrera and his informal army swept the field. The British consul reported an eyewitness account of their triumphant entry into Guatemala City during the first weeks of 1838 (quoted in Wortman, 1982: 264):~

TL;DR: This paper looks at the action of three specific hormones--estrogen, progesterone and prolactin--in the 7, 12 DMBA-induced mammary cancers and suggests that structural homologies between steric hormones and 7, 11 DMBA allow 7,12 DMBA to interfere with normal hormonal action, and that this interference results in the development of these rat mammary tumors.
