TL;DR: It is reported that mutations in EVC2 also cause Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, a autosomal recessive skeletal dysplasia that lies in a head-to-head configuration that is conserved from fish to man.
Abstract: Ellis-van Creveld syndrome (EvC) is an autosomal recessive skeletal dysplasia. Elsewhere, we described mutations in EVC in patients with this condition (Ruiz-Perez et al. 2000). We now report that mutations in EVC2 also cause EvC. These two genes lie in a head-to-head configuration that is conserved from fish to man. Affected individuals with mutations in EVC and EVC2 have the typical spectrum of features and are phenotypically indistinguishable.

TL;DR: The effect of ivabradine on outcomes is greater in patients with heart rate ≥75 bpm with heart rates achieved <60 bpm or heart rate reductions >10 bpm predicting best risk reduction, which emphasize the importance of identification of high-risk HF patients by high heart rates and their treatment withheart rate-lowering drugs such as ivABradine.
Abstract: We analysed the effect of ivabradine on outcomes in heart failure (HF) patients on recommended background therapies with heart rates ≥75 bpm and 10 bpm. None of the endpoints was significantly reduced in the 10 bpm. Ivabradine was tolerated similarly in both groups. The effect of ivabradine on outcomes is greater in patients with heart rate ≥75 bpm with heart rates achieved 10 bpm predicting best risk reduction. Our findings emphasize the importance of identification of high-risk HF patients by high heart rates and their treatment with heart rate-lowering drugs such as ivabradine.

TL;DR: The physical principles of tissue spectroscopy including a brief description of the different operating principles that are currently in use or under development and the future beyond the scope of NIRS and potential lines of research will be discussed.
Abstract: Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a light-based technology used to monitor tissue oxygen status. Refinements to the method since it was first described have extended its applicability to different research and clinical settings due to its non-invasiveness, instrument portability and ease of use. Classic NIRS recordings, based in the Beer-Lambert law, can be used for the trend monitoring of changes in tissue perfusion-oxygenation parting from an arbitrary zero point. However, in order to derive intermittently quantitative values in absolute terms, certain manoeuvres must be performed. More recently, the evolution of the technique has led to the development of instruments that provide an absolute value of regional hemoglobin saturation in a continuous manner. This review will focus on the physical principles of tissue spectroscopy including a brief description of the different operating principles that are currently in use or under development. The theoretical details, experimental procedures and data analysis involved in the measurements of physiological variables using NIRS will be described. The future beyond the scope of NIRS and potential lines of research will also be discussed.
