TL;DR: In this paper, a framework for energy efficient computing is proposed that comprises a set of policies for controlling CPU cycles for the mode of local computing, time division between MPT and offloading, and mode selection.
Abstract: Achieving long battery lives or even self sustainability has been a long standing challenge for designing mobile devices. This paper presents a novel solution that seamlessly integrates two technologies, mobile cloud computing and microwave power transfer (MPT), to enable computation in passive low-complexity devices such as sensors and wearable computing devices. Specifically, considering a single-user system, a base station (BS) either transfers power to or offloads computation from a mobile to the cloud; the mobile uses harvested energy to compute given data either locally or by offloading. A framework for energy efficient computing is proposed that comprises a set of policies for controlling CPU cycles for the mode of local computing, time division between MPT and offloading for the other mode of offloading, and mode selection. Given the CPU-cycle statistics information and channel state information (CSI), the policies aim at maximizing the probability of successfully computing given data, called computing probability, under the energy harvesting and deadline constraints. The policy optimization is translated into the equivalent problems of minimizing the mobile energy consumption for local computing and maximizing the mobile energy savings for offloading which are solved using convex optimization theory. The structures of the resultant policies are characterized in closed form. Furthermore, given non-causal CSI, the said analytical framework is further developed to support computation load allocation over multiple channel realizations, which further increases computing probability. Last, simulation demonstrates the feasibility of wirelessly powered mobile cloud computing and the gain of its optimal control.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and an apparatus for providing channel quality information in a wireless communication system are disclosed, which includes receiving a downlink signal, calculating a channel quality index for the received downlink signals at least based on a number of resource elements for a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), where the number of resources for the PDSCH is determined based on an overhead of a demodulation reference signal (DMRS).
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for providing channel quality information in a wireless communication system are disclosed. According to one embodiment of the invention, a method for transmitting channel quality information includes receiving a downlink signal, calculating a channel quality information index for the received downlink signal at least based on a number of resource elements for a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), wherein the number of resource elements for the PDSCH is determined at least based on an overhead of a demodulation reference signal (DMRS), and transmitting the calculated channel quality information index.

22 Jul 2013TL;DR: In this article, a mobile terminal that has a function of changing a payment credit card at the time of near field communication (NFC) payment in a low battery state, and a method of performing the NFC payment using the mobile terminal is presented.
Abstract: Provided is a mobile terminal that has a function of changing a payment credit card at the time of near field communication (NFC) payment in a low battery state, and a method of performing the NFC payment using the mobile terminal. In the mobile terminal according to the present invention, unlike in a mobile terminal in the related art in which payment is simply performed with a default credit card, if the NFC payment is requested in the low battery state where the mobile terminal is powered off, a payment application based on a light operating system, which is executed on an embedded Linux, is displayed, and the NFC payment with a credit card selected from the payment application based on the corresponding light operating system is performed. Therefore, a credit card payment can be effectively performed in a low battery state as well.

31 Jan 2007TL;DR: In this article, a receiver and receiver control method was proposed to facilitate user access to recorded content, including access for viewing, editing, and deletion, by providing means for improved file recognition so that recording items can be accurately and efficiently confirmed via a main screen without playing back any of the recording items in full.
Abstract: A receiver and receiver control method facilitate user access to recorded content, including access for viewing, editing, and deletion, by providing means for improved file recognition so that recording items can be accurately and efficiently confirmed via a main screen without playing back any of the recording items in full. The method uses a recording list including at least one window, at least one progress bar, and additional information such as a program title and enables the recording list to be constructed from a received stream. A specific recording item (video program) may be selected in correspondence to a thumbnail image displayed as part of the recording list. The selected video program or a video sample thereof is displayed, after scaling, to occupy a screen area coinciding with a screen area previously occupied by the corresponding thumbnail image.
