21 Dec 2019TL;DR: This paper is attempting to review the existing solutions based on the methodology adopted and validate them using specific performance metrics, to help improve the detection and prevention of ransomware attacks.
Abstract: Ransomware is among the most dangerous malware prevailing in today’s world. Once infected, the malware either encrypts the data or lock the system screen, and prevents the owner from accessing his data and system until some ransom money is paid, resulting in multi-million dollars of cyber-extortion annually. Additionally, there is no guarantee that the owner would regain access to the seized data after payment is made. Ransomware attacks keep troubling the cybersecurity community; researchers are working towards developing efficient techniques for the detection and prevention of ransomware attacks. In this paper, we are attempting to review the existing solutions based on the methodology adopted and validate them using specific performance metrics.

TL;DR: An analytical method for finding the probability generating function of the contention delay for medium access is developed first using Markovian techniques and the results obtained are used in the queueing model and defines the conditions that affect the interplay of lifetimes and latencies.
Abstract: It is of utmost importance in a wireless body area network (WBAN) to improve the lifetimes of devices, while restricting latencies within allowable limits. These two demands are often conflicting, and a method to ensure fairly good values for these parameters with a view to satisfying the requirements of the WBAN application would be highly desirable. We consider CSMA/CA option of the medium access in 802.15.6 standard, and propose a sleep mechanism for the devices. An M/G/1 queue with repeated inhomogeneous vacations model is used for the medium access in a typical WBAN network in hospital environments to see how the requirements of lifetimes and delays are taken care of. An analytical method for finding the probability generating function of the contention delay for medium access is developed first using Markovian techniques. The results obtained are then used in the queueing model. Comparison of theoretical values with simulations results shows a fairly close match and defines the conditions that affect the interplay of lifetimes and latencies.

TL;DR: In this article, an optimal tuning procedure for design of Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controllers for open loop unstable First Order plus Time Delay systems is given. But, the proposed method is not suitable for setpoint tracking and disturbance rejection.

TL;DR: Two novel and computationally efficient metaheuristic algorithms based on Artificial Bee Colony and Tabu Search principles for Multi User Detection in Turbo Trellis Coded Modulation based Space Division Multiple Access Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing system are proposed.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose two novel and computationally efficient metaheuristic algorithms based on Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) and Tabu Search (TS) principles for Multi User Detection (MUD) in Turbo Trellis Coded Modulation based Space Division Multiple Access Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing system. Unlike gradient descent methods, both ABC and TS methods ensure minimization of the objective function without the solution being trapped into local optima. These techniques are capable of achieving excellent performance in the so called overloaded system, where the number of transmit antennas is higher than the number of receiver antennas, in which the known classic MUDs fail. The performance of the proposed algorithms are compared with each other and also against Genetic Algorithm (GA) and K-Best sperical decoding algorithm based MUD. Simulation results establish better performance, computational efficiency and convergence characteristics for ABC and TS methods. It is seen that the proposed detectors achieve similar performance to that of well known optimum Maximum Likelihood Detector (MLD) at a significantly lower computational complexity and outperforms the traditional MMSE MUD.

TL;DR: The reactor system and GAC-TiO2 catalyst used could be constructive in cost-effective CBF removal with no impact to receiving environment through getaway of photocatalyst.
Abstract: Carbofuran (CBF) removal in a continuous-flow photocatalytic reactor with granular activated carbon supported titanium dioxide (GAC-TiO2) catalyst was investigated. The effects of feed flow rate, TiO2 concentration and addition of supplementary oxidants on CBF removal were investigated. The central composite design (CCD) was used to design the experiments and to estimate the effects of feed flow rate and TiO2 concentration on CBF removal. The outcome of CCD experiments demonstrated that reactor performance was influenced mainly by feed flow rate compared to TiO2 concentration. A second-order polynomial model developed based on CCD experiments fitted the experimental data with good correlation (R2 ∼ 0.964). The addition of 1 mL min−1 hydrogen peroxide has shown complete CBF degradation and 76% chemical oxygen demand removal under the following operating conditions of CBF ∼50 mg L−1, TiO2 ∼5 mg L−1 and feed flow rate ∼82.5 mL min−1. Rate constant of the photodegradation process was also calculated b...
