01 Nov 2015TL;DR: Experimental results shows that the proposed method with the new combination of features as training parameters for ANN give better result as compared to other popular algorithms.
Abstract: Vehicle detection and classification is the most important and challenging stage of traffic surveillance using computer vision techniques. The videos captured using the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras placed in roadsides or driveways are used for the surveillance. The surveillance system includes detection of moving vehicles, counting the number of vehicles and the classification of the detected vehicles. The main challenge of the computer vision technique is the real time applicability of the algorithms used. In this work a vehicle detection and classification algorithm which works in real time is proposed. The detection is carried out by the method of background subtraction where the background is modeled using the mixture of Gaussians and the detected vehicles are classified using the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with a new set of features, Histograms of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and geometric measures of the vehicles. Experimental results shows that the proposed method with the new combination of features as training parameters for ANN give better result as compared to other popular algorithms.

TL;DR: In this article, the static performance characteristics of thermohydrodynamic journal bearing operating under nanolubricants (lubricants containing per cent weight concentration of nanoparticles) were investigated.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this work is to investigate the static performance characteristics of thermohydrodynamic journal bearing operating under nanolubricants (lubricants containing per cent weight concentration of nanoparticles). Design/methodology/approach – Addition of nanoparticles in the lubricant increases lubricant viscosity. To study the effect of this variation on journal bearing, analytical models are developed for the relationship between viscosity, 0-0.5 per cent weight concentration of nanoparticles and temperature range of 300-900°C. To obtain pressure and temperature distribution, modified Reynolds and energy equations are solved by using the finite element method. The viscosity field (varies with temperature and per cent weight concentration of nanoparticles) is updated in these two equations by using the developed analytical model. The steady-state performance characteristics are computed for various values of eccentricity ratios for non-thermoviscous (viscosity of lubricant varies with...

TL;DR: The results indicate that presence of biotin in sperm wash medium can improve the fertilization potential and preimplantation embryo development and can be considered as a safe alternate to PTX.
Abstract: Motility of spermatozoa helps not only in planning the type of infertility treatment but also directly reflects the success rate in assisted reproductive technology (ART). Previously, biotin, a water-soluble vitamin, has been shown to increase the motility and longevity of cryopreserved human spermatozoa. The present study was designed to understand the molecular basis of the beneficial effects of presence of biotin in sperm wash medium on early embryo development. The effect biotin supplementation to sperm wash medium on the sperm parameters were assessed in swim-up fraction of normozoospermic and asthenozoospermic ejaculates collected from infertile men. Fertilization and early embryo development was studied using Swiss albino mice. Even though both biotin and pentoxifylline (PTX) enhanced the motility of spermatozoa from normozoospermic and asthenozoospermic samples, biotin group exhibited higher in vitro survival. Using mouse model, we observed that presence of biotin or PTX in sperm wash medium improved the fertilization rate and blastocyst rate compared to control. Blastocysts from these groups had significantly higher total cell number (P < 0.01) and lower apoptotic index. In silico target prediction revealed that GTPase HRas (HRas), tyrosine-protein phosphatase nonreceptor type 1 (PTP1B), and glucokinase are the probable targets for biotin. Solution-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) studies confirmed that biotin interacts both with human HRas and PTP1B. Our results indicate that presence of biotin in sperm wash medium can improve the fertilization potential and preimplantation embryo development and can be considered as a safe alternate to PTX.
