TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the changes in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) incidence before and during the COVID-19 outbreak in Kobe City, Japan, compared with that of the same (pre-outbreak) period in 2019 using a Poisson regression analysis with the monthly number of PCIs as the dependent variable.
Abstract: Aim The global outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has had widespread effects on clinical practice, and is reportedly associated with reduced percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) rates in the US and Italy. This study aimed to ascertain the influence of the COVID-19 outbreak on PCI practice in Japan. Methods In a retrospective analysis of claims data from National Health Insurance and Later-Stage Elderly Healthcare System enrollees in Kobe City, Japan, we examined the changes in PCI incidence before and during the COVID-19 outbreak. Percutaneous coronary intervention incidence during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 was compared with that of the same (pre-outbreak) period in 2019 using a Poisson regression analysis with the monthly number of PCIs as the dependent variable. Results A total of 639 patients underwent PCI in Kobe City between February and May 2020. The results showed a 19% reduction in all PCI procedures during the outbreak relative to the pre-outbreak period (P = 0.001). There were no significant changes in non-elective PCIs for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) cases, but a 25% reduction in elective PCIs for non-ACS cases (P < 0.001). Conclusions The COVID-19 outbreak was associated with a decline in elective PCIs for non-ACS cases, but did not appear to influence non-elective PCIs for ACS cases in Japan.

TL;DR: In this article, the initial rates of photofading for 30 disperse azo dyes on nylon fabric upon exposure to a carbon arc in air have been analyzed by formulating a kinetic equation that describes azo scission via the disproportionation reactions and intramolecular H-transfer by two kinds of hydrazinyl radicals and the conversion of a nitro group to a Nitroso group via a disproportionation reaction of nitrosyl hydroxide radicals.
Abstract: The initial rates of photofading for 30 disperse azo dyes on nylon fabric upon exposure to a carbon arc in air have been analysed by formulating a kinetic equation that describes azo scission via the disproportionation reactions and intramolecular H-transfer by two kinds of hydrazinyl radicals and the conversion of a nitro group to a nitroso group via the disproportionation reaction of nitrosyl hydroxide radicals. The five reaction rate constants are discussed in terms of the heats of reaction by calculating the heats of formation for the reactants, intermediates and products of each reaction using the PM5 method. Phenylazo- and thiazoleazo-N,N-substituted anilines and phenylazo-pyridones exhibited large rate constants of multiple terms, while phenylazo-phenols had the highest light fastness and very small rate constants for the disproportionation reactions of hydrazinyl radicals. Photofading on nylon fabric was primarily controlled by the thermal reactions of photo-induced monohydrogenated dye radicals, which occurred via one or two primary multiple routes.

01 Jan 2020TL;DR: Gifted school activities for students with various disabilities were presented with self-made original content created with newly-developed software that can handle multimedia-enabled dot codes, originally developed by Gridmark, Inc.
Abstract: Gifted school activities for students with various disabilities were presented with self-made original content created with newly-developed software—Sound Linker, File Linker, GM Authoring Tool, and Gridmark Content Viewer software—that can handle multimedia-enabled dot codes, originally developed by Gridmark, Inc. Each dot codes can link up to four multimedia mediums—such as a movie—in addition to up to four voices/sounds. Touching dot codes with a speaking-pen enables audio files to be replayed, and touching dot codes with a dot-code reader enables multimedia to be replayed on iOS and Windows OS devices. Software and Post-it® sticker icon overlaid with dot codes and a speaking-pen and dot-code reader are distributed for free to school teachers. All the teachers can now create their own self-made original content and can conduct related school activities without buying any costly software and tools. Basic information on (1) creating original teaching materials using the developed software and (2) its use in schools for students with various difficulties is presented in this chapter.
