TL;DR: This chapter reports recent advancements in software used to create handmade teaching materials as well as several case studies from preschools, special needs schools, and general schools.
Abstract: The authors use a new communication aid in conducting many activities at preschools, special needs schools, and general schools. They use dot codes printed on paper and linked with multimedia such as voices, sounds, movies, Web pages, html files, and PowerPoint files. More than one audio file can be linked with a single dot code, and other multimedia files can be further linked to the same dot code in addition to the audios. Just touching the dot code with sound pens (Speaking Pen and G-Talk) can produce the original voices and sounds clearly. If a G1-Scanner pen is connected to a tablet or a personal computer, the multimedia can be replayed on its screen. This chapter reports recent advancements in software used to create handmade teaching materials as well as several case studies from preschools, special needs schools, and general schools.

TL;DR: Compared with average Japanese children, Quezon City (QC) children were taller and heavier up to ages 7-9 in both sexes, whereas at ages 12-14,average Japanese children exceeded QC children, and this Japan-QC difference seems to be widened through the post-pubertal period.
Abstract: Stature, body weight, and the body mass index (BMI) in cross-sectional sample of Philippine children aged 7-17 were studied in a rural region, Isabela Province (531 boys and 571 girls), and in an urban region, Metro Manila (984 girls and 1003 boys). Each region consisted of a poorly-off group and a well-off group. Children of well-off families were taller and heavier than those of poorly-off families in both rural and urban regions, and growth of the rural well-off group coincided with that of the urban poorly-off group. Compared with average Japanese children, Quezon City (QC) children (the well-off group in Manila) were taller and heavier up to ages 7-9 in both sexes, whereas at ages 12-14, average Japanese children exceeded QC children. This Japan-QC difference seems to be widened through the post-pubertal period. Sensitivity to environmental stress in boys is suggested not only for stature but also in the BMI. The post-pubertal boys' predominance of stature seems to be related to a shorter duration of the adolescent girls' predominance. The age at maximum age-class difference occurs earlier with the greater difference being one of a taller and heavier body constitution in the well-off QC group. The time lag for these ages between QC and Makati, the poorly-off group, was shorter in the boys than in the girls, and about 3 years earlier in the girls than in the boys in Makati, and only about 1 year earlier in QC.

TL;DR: E-books created with special needs school, general school, and Japanese Foreign Language Institute schoolteachers were implemented at many schools for students with reading disabilities and dyslexia and basic information regarding the creation of these e-books and their use in schools is presented.
Abstract: Original e-book teaching materials containing media overlays were created for use in teaching students with reading disabilities. FUSEe developed by FUSE network, Japan was used to create EPUB 3 e-books, where an audio was replayed with synchronized highlighting of the corresponding text. SMIL language or JavaScript package for iOS, ibooks.js was used to replay the audio reproduction. These EPUB 3 e-books were read effectively with an EPUB 3 reader (for example, iBooks for iOS, and Sony and Kobo Readers for Android). E-books created with special needs school, general school, and Japanese Foreign Language Institute schoolteachers were implemented at many schools for students with reading disabilities and dyslexia. Some assessments of the reading activities were performed to clarify the e-books containing media overlays. Basic information regarding the creation of these e-books and their use in schools is presented in this chapter.
