TL;DR: Applying a standard regarding content of sexual health in information material is recommended as well as improved awareness of referral possibilities and enhanced provision of pre-treatment nurse consultations for men experiencing SD after prostate cancer treatment.
Abstract: Objective was to investigate content of written information material and availability of sexual health care for men experiencing sexual dysfunction (SD) after prostate cancer treatment. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among Dutch urology and radiotherapy departments to evaluate information materials and availability of sexual health care. Out of 71 eligible departments, 34 urology and 15 radiotherapy departments participated in the survey (response rate 69.0%). Fifty-nine brochures corresponding to 31 urology and 11 radiotherapy departments were analysed. In 88.1% of collected information material, sexual health was mentioned. Regarding extensiveness, 20.4% of the brochures contained extensive information, 50.8% moderate amount of information and 28.8% contained little or no information. Urology departments provided pre-treatment nurse consultations more often than radiotherapy departments. Sexual counselling was more frequently provided by urology departments. Urology departments were more aware of adequate referral possibilities. Information material provided by Dutch urology and radiotherapy departments does not address treatment-related SD routinely. Sexual health care is not available everywhere for men experiencing SD. Applying a standard regarding content of sexual health in information material is recommended as well as improved awareness of referral possibilities and enhanced provision of pre-treatment nurse consultations for men experiencing SD after prostate cancer treatment.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors define the added value of the work environment with respect to the perceived knowledge productivity of academics and find that a high performance workplace supports both externalization and internalization of knowledge, allowing group members to collaborate and communicate according to need.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to define the added value of the work environment with respect to the perceived knowledge productivity of academics. Design/methodology/approach – Literature review; a multiple case study based on literature review (6 cases); a survey (n=188). Findings –To determine the role of research within the organisation the strategic orientation could be a starting point (Treacy & Wiersema, 1996). From the interviews it becomes clear that directors, professors and researchers do not have a shared vision on the role of research in their institution. Knowledge workers share two basic needs: time for working in isolation (internalization of knowledge); time for interaction with others (externalization of knowledge); activities that require different spatial concepts. None of the work environments involved in the study adequately support all of the phases in the knowledge development process. Survey results show a difference between the direct effect of the work environment on the perceived personal productivity and the productivity of the collective (team and organization). The physical and social dimensions combined explain approx. 50% of the variance of the perceived productivity. Conclusions - A high performance workplace supports both externalization and internalization of knowledge, allowing group members to collaborate and communicate according to need. Recommendations - The role of research within the institution must be clearly defined for FM to be of added value. Academics should be allowed to choose as to how, where and when they work and involved during the development of new concepts. Paper type: Research paper

26 Apr 2017TL;DR: While informal caregivers recognized the safety and mobility benefits and the increased peace of mind – privacy issues, the lack of human touch and an unfelt need for support formed major barriers towards adoption.
Abstract: Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies are on the rise in an attempt to ensure the sustainability of elderly care. Informal caregivers are an important stakeholder group for the successful adoption of AAL technologies. However, the number of studies that specifically address the attitudes, concerns and needs of this group is limited. With the aim to engage this underrepresented user group and to highlight their opinion and needs, we conducted in-depth interviews with 20 informal caregivers to evaluate different AAL solutions in the field of mobility and safety. While informal caregivers recognized the safety and mobility benefits and the increased peace of mind – privacy issues, the lack of human touch and an unfelt need for support formed major barriers towards adoption. Informal caregivers have an important influence on care decisions and should be closely involved when developing AAL tools.

TL;DR: The authors conducted a comparative study of seven countries and found that formal barriers are largely absent, that stakeholder influence has grown somewhat over recent years, but that actual influence of stakeholders can be further optimised in higher education institutions.
Abstract: How are stakeholders represented in higher education institutions’ decision-making that influences
the quality of education, and are their viewpoints taken into account? These were the main questions
addressed in this part of the seven-country comparative study. Findings indicate that formal
barriers are largely absent, that stakeholder influence has grown somewhat over recent years, but
that actual influence of stakeholders can be further optimised in higher education institutions.
