TL;DR: In this article, the effect of impurity doping on the electrostrictive properties (the magnitude of the induced strain and hysteresis) has been investigated for (Pb,Ba) (Zr,Ti)O3 ceramics.
Abstract: The effect of impurity doping on the electrostrictive properties (the magnitude of the induced strain and hysteresis) has been investigated for (Pb,Ba) (Zr,Ti)O3 ceramics. When doping with a donor impurity, the strain becomes larger and the degree of hysteresis becomes smaller than that observed for non-doped samples, while acceptor doping leads to a smaller strain and a larger degree of hysteresis. The strain and hysteresis are also influenced by the concentration of the metal oxide dopant.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the functional connectivity of the AG is modulated by imagined music performance, which suggests that the AG plays a role in music performance.
Abstract: The angular gyrus (AG) is a hub of several networks that are involved in various functions, including attention, self-processing, semantic information processing, emotion regulation, and mentalizing. Since these functions are required in music performance, it is likely that the AG plays a role in music performance. Considering that these functions emerge as network properties, this study analyzed the functional connectivity of the AG during the imagined music performance task and the resting condition. Our hypothesis was that the functional connectivity of the AG is modulated by imagined music performance. In the resting condition, the AG had connections with the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), and precuneus as well as the superior and inferior frontal gyri and with the temporal cortex. Compared with the resting condition, imagined music performance increased the functional connectivity of the AG with the superior frontal gyrus (SFG), mPFC, precuneus, PCC, hippocampal/parahippocampal gyrus (H/PHG), and amygdala. The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and superior temporal gyrus (STG) were newly engaged or added to the AG network during the task. In contrast, the supplementary motor area (SMA), sensorimotor areas, and occipital regions, which were anti-correlated with the AG in the resting condition, were disengaged during the task. These results lead to the conclusion that the functional connectivity of the AG is modulated by imagined music performance, which suggests that the AG plays a role in imagined music performance.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that there exist smooth, simply connected, fourdimensional spin manifolds which do not admit Einstein metrics, but satisfy the strict Hitchin-Thorpe inequality.
Abstract: We show that there exist smooth, simply connected, fourdimensional spin manifolds which do not admit Einstein metrics, but nevertheless satisfy the strict Hitchin-Thorpe inequality. Our construction makes use of the Bauer/Furuta cohomotopy re nement of the Seiberg-Witten invariant [4, 3], in conjunction with curvature estimates previously proved by the second author [17]. These methods also easily allow one to construct examples of topological 4-manifolds which admit an Einstein metric for one smooth structure, but which have in nitely many other smooth structures for which no Einstein metric can exist.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the C1-APB/3-PB-γ-CyD complex functioned as an efficient supramolecular sensor for selective glucose recognition in water.
Abstract: A boronic acid fluorophore (C1-APB)/boronic acid-modified γ-cyclodextrin (3-PB-γ-CyD) complex as a supramolecular sensor has been designed for selective glucose recognition in water. The fluorescent response behavior of the C1-APB/3-PB-γ-CyD complex under various pH conditions revealed that a C1-APB/3-PB-γ-CyD complex solution containing glucose showed a large increase in the fluorescence intensity under alkaline pH conditions. In contrast, only small increases in the fluorescence intensity were noted for fructose and without sugar solutions. The observed response selectivity for the C1-APB/3-PB-γ-CyD complex was on the order of glucose >> galactose, mannose > fructose. The evidence on a large value of the inclusion constant (K(L·CyD) = 6.5 × 10(3) M(-1)), a marked broadening of the (1)H NMR spectra, and an enhancement of induced circular dichloism (ICD) intensity for the C1-APB/3-PB-γ-CyD complex by glucose binding supported the multi-point interaction of the C1-APB/3-PB-γ-CyD complex with glucose. These results demonstrated that the C1-APB/3-PB-γ-CyD complex functioned as an efficient supramolecular sensor for selective glucose recognition in water.
