Abstract: Reverberation chambers (RC) are being used for several decades. The main advantage is the high field strength which can be generated, with only modest power. In the last few years the use of RCs became much popular, for testing multi-path propagation for communication links, or testing the coupling of complex fields into transmission lines, as well as testing coupling into objects, and measuring the shielding effectiveness of materials. The costs for setting up a conventional RC, with rotating mode stirrers, is low compared to the cost of anechoic chambers. Existing chambers are making use of a paddle wheel to change the resonant modes in the chamber. A transportable reverberation chamber with varying angles between wall, floor and ceiling and with vibrating walls has been used for testing of many systems. Inside this Vibrating Intrinsic Reverberation Chamber (VIRC) a diffuse, statistically uniform electromagnetic field is created without the use of a mechanical, rotating, mode stirrer. This chamber results in a better homogeneity and increased field strength compared to conventional mode stirred reverberation chambers. The use of flexible material to build the VIRC is making a test facility at even lower cost possible. Furthermore such a VIRC can be built around a test object, and the test object is not to be moved to an anechoic chamber. This can reduce test costs for complex systems. The basic principles of RC and VIRC are explained, and several applications shown.

Abstract: This publication describes the development of a novel cooling strategy for electronic packages. During the conceptual design phase, the engineering disciplines involved are considered simultaneously. Through a case study, it is demonstrated that this integrative approach is an effective methodology leading to an innovative design. A novel, improved and highly integrated cooling strategy for electronic packages is presented. Standardized package types, as for instance ball grid array packages, are equipped with a directly injected cooling support. The developed concept is a new and very cost effective concept, as fewer productions steps and fewer procured parts are required compared to traditional cooling concepts. The new concept is also easily scalable, as multiple components on an electronic product can be cooled both uniformly across the product and simultaneously. This increases design flexibility and results in electronic products with advantages in terms of performance, compactness, weight and production efficiency.

Abstract: This paper describes a multistatic, sea clutter and vessel database, assembled using the three node, S Band radar, known as NetRAD (for, “Netted Radar”). This data was collected in the United Kingdom and South Africa during 2009-201. It is the intention of the investigators and sponsors of this work to make the raw data available to individuals and organisations interested in processing this multistatic data in support of the development of the understanding of sea clutter and vessel properties in the multistatic configuration.

Abstract: More often consumers are complaining about the energy bill after the conventional electromechanical meter has been replaced by an electronic, or static, energy meter. Active infeed converters for photo-voltaic systems are a known source for interference to static meters. To investigate the root cause experiments on static meters have been performed in a controlled lab environment. Three-phase meters showed large deviations of more than 250% and −46%. After dismantling it was revealed that the meters with the positive deviation used a Rogowski coil current sensor. The meter with a Hall effect-based current sensor gave the −46% deviation.
