TL;DR: The cnidarian extracts analyzed showed relevant in vitro inhibitory potential over the activities induced by Bothrops venoms; these results may contribute to elucidate the possible mechanisms of interaction between cnodarian extracts and snake venoms.
Abstract: Cnidarians produce toxins, which are composed of different polypeptides that induce pharmacological effects of biotechnological interest, such as antitumor, antiophidic and anti-clotting activities. This study aimed to evaluate toxicological activities and potential as antitumor and antiophidic agents contained in total extracts from five cnidarians: Millepora alcicornis, Stichodactyla helianthus, Plexaura homomalla, Bartholomea annulata and Condylactis gigantea (total and body wall). The cnidarian extracts were evaluated by electrophoresis and for their phospholipase, proteolytic, hemorrhagic, coagulant, fibrinogenolytic, neuromuscular blocking, muscle-damaging, edema-inducing and cytotoxic activities. All cnidarian extracts showed indirect hemolytic activity, but only S. helianthus induced direct hemolysis and neurotoxic effect. However, the hydrolysis of NBD-PC, a PLA2 substrate, was presented only by the C. gigantea (body wall) and S. helianthus. The extracts from P. homomalla and S. helianthus induced edema, while only C. gigantea and S. helianthus showed intensified myotoxic activity. The proteolytic activity upon casein and fibrinogen was presented mainly by B. annulata extract and all were unable to induce hemorrhage or fibrinogen coagulation. Cnidarian extracts were able to neutralize clotting induced by Bothrops jararacussu snake venom, except M. alcicornis. All cnidarian extracts were able to inhibit hemorrhagic activity induced by Bothrops moojeni venom. Only the C. gigantea (body wall) inhibited thrombin-induced coagulation. All cnidarian extracts showed antitumor effect against Jurkat cells, of which C. gigantea (body wall) and S. helianthus were the most active; however, only C. gigantea (body wall) and M. alcicornis were active against B16F10 cells. The cnidarian extracts analyzed showed relevant in vitro inhibitory potential over the activities induced by Bothrops venoms; these results may contribute to elucidate the possible mechanisms of interaction between cnidarian extracts and snake venoms.

TL;DR: The use of two or three nutritional sufficiency classes increases the possibility of anticipating sampling time for foliar diagnosis, which would enable timely nutritional diagnosis to correct or mitigate eventual nutritional deficiencies.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the possibility of anticipation of foliar sampling in upland rice, in order to enable nutritional diagnosis for timely intervention. One hundred and seven leaf samples were collected from genotype trials of Embrapa Rondonia, in the state of Rondonia, Brazil, in three sampling times: anticipated, at 30 and 40 days after sowing (DAS); and standard, at 65 DAS. Composition nutrient diagnosis (CND) norms were obtained for each evaluated time and used for diagnosis on all evaluation times, comparing the results from the potential response to fertilization under two or three nutritional sufficiency classes, and checking the degree of agreement between the diagnostics. The use of two sufficiency classes increases the possibility of anticipating sampling time for foliar diagnosis, which would enable timely nutritional diagnosis to correct or mitigate eventual nutritional deficiencies. The anticipation of foliar diagnosis in upland rice depends on the development of specific nutritional diagnosis norms for each sampling time.

Abstract: Nos dias atuais, muitos autores vem debatendo a questao do racismo.

TL;DR: In this article, the extraction of essential oil from the roots of Piper marginatum was perfomed by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger graduated apparatus; the oil analysis was performed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry.
Abstract: Piper marginatum is traditionally known as "caapeba cheirosa" or "malvarisco", it is a medicinal plant native from Central and South America; its parts are traditionally used in folk medicine to treat stomach problems in general. Due to its importance in folk medicine and because it is a species mainly obtained by extractivism in an indiscrimante manner, this study aimed to extract, identify and quantify its fresh essential oils collected in Porto Velho, the state capital of Rondonia. The extraction of essential oil from the roots of P. marginatum was perfomed by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger graduated apparatus; the oil analysis was performed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. Twenty-five compounds were determined in the essential oil, among them, the (E)-anethol, (Z)-anethol, safrol, germacrene D, germacrene B, and bicyclogermacrene, showed higher levels than the other constituents in all collections and the predominant class of essential oils were the monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and phenylpropanoids.
