Abstract: Organizational identification (OI) has increasingly attracted scholarly attention as a key factor in understanding organizational processes and in fostering efficient human resource (HR) management. Available evidence shows that organizational ethical climate crucially predicts OI, a key determinant of both employees' attitudes and behaviors. In the present paper, we examined the relationship between two specific ethical climates (self-interest vs. friendship), distributed leadership (DL), and employees' attitudes and behaviors, incorporating OI as a core underlying mechanism driving these relationships. Three hundred and forty-two employees filled out questionnaires to examine ethical climate, DL, OI, and a series of measures concerning attitudes and behaviors toward the organization. Structural equation modeling confirmed that a perception of an ethical climate of friendship (but not self-interest) fostered OI, which elicited higher commitment, perceived trust and recommendation, and lower turnover intention. Perception of DL further contributed to increasing OI. Our findings suggest that HR practices should carefully consider employee perceptions of a collectivistic (vs. individualistic) ethical climate, together with perceptions of DL, as key determinants of positive organizational outcomes. We discuss results in light of the social identity approach and present practical implications for HR management.

Abstract: This work investigates the dynamics of a microbeam-based MEMS device in the neighborhood of a 2:1 internal resonance between the third and fifth vibration modes. The saturation of the third mode and the concurrent activation of the fifth are observed. The main features are analyzed extensively, both experimentally and theoretically. We experimentally observe that the complexity induced by the 2:1 internal resonance covers a wide driving frequency range. Constantly comparing with the experimental data, the response is examined from a global perspective, by analyzing the attractor-basins scenario. This analysis is conducted both in the third-mode and in fifth-mode planes. We show several metamorphoses occurring as proceeding from the principal resonance to the 2:1 internal resonance, up to the final disappearance of the resonant and non-resonant attractors. The shape and wideness of all the basins are examined. Although they are progressively eroded, an appreciable region is detected where the compact cores of the attractors involved in the 2:1 internal resonance remain substantial, which allows effectively operating them under realistic conditions. The dynamical integrity of each resonant branch is discussed, especially as approaching the bifurcation points where the system becomes more vulnerable to the dynamic pull-in instability.

Abstract: This paper compares the results of a techno-economic performance analysis of seven plants for energy production from biomass with the aim of identifying the most effective solution. Small ( ≤ 250 KWe) and micro ( ≤ 100 KWe) size plants were investigated: 50 kWe diesel internal combustion engine coupled with a gasifier and 35 kWe Stirling engine coupled with a gasifier with an overall efficiency of 41.1% and 87.5% respectively, two biomass cogenerators, one of 25 kWe and the other of 100 kWe, 250 kWe Otto internal combustion engine coupled with a gasifier and 250 kWe diesel internal combustion engine coupled with a gasifier and 238 kWe biomass ORC plant. The technical analysis provided calculations for specific biomass consumption, electricity generation, heat produced and overall system efficiency. The economic evaluation was carried on through a discounted cash flow analysis. Data were provided by literature, analysis of case study at Italian and European level, and directly by the manufacturers of cogeneration systems. The results showed that a combined heat and power (CHP) generator is the best solution because it is economically viable with a high NPV and a PBP of five years and also technically performing with a global efficiency of 78.2% and a low biomass consumption.
