TL;DR: In mice made aggressive by prolonged isolation, there is a decrease in brain serotonin turnover, while increased aggressiveness has been noted in cats and rats given p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA), which inhibits serotonin synthesis.
Abstract: THERE is some doubt about the role of brain serotonin in aggression. In mice made aggressive by prolonged isolation, there is a decrease in brain serotonin turnover1, while increased aggressiveness has been noted in cats2 and rats3 given p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA), which inhibits serotonin synthesis4, although the experiments with cats2 were not confirmed later5. Dominguez and Longo6 reported that PCPA attenuates irritability and viciousness in rats with septal lesions, and Welch and Welch7 observed decreased aggressiveness in isolated mice given PCPA. The explanation for these contradictory results may be that different models of aggression are not mediated through the same areas of the brain or by the same biochemical mechanisms.

TL;DR: In this paper, Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) was shown to increase the dopamine synthesis rate in the basal ganglia of the rat and caudate nucleus of the rabbit at a rate which greatly exceeded the normal synthesis rate of the amine in these species.
Abstract: — Gamma-hydroxybutyrate administration produces a marked selective increase of brain dopamine in different animal species. Following γ-hydroxybutyrate administration, dopamine accumulated in the basal ganglia of the rat and in the caudate nucleus of the rabbit at a rate which greatly exceeded the normal synthesis rate of the amine in these species. Dopamine accumulation was prevented by α-methyltyrosine. These data indicate that γ-hydroxybutyrate stimulates dopamine synthesis. In addition, γ-hydroxybutyrate increased the homovanillic acid level in the rat basal ganglia to a maximum of about 300 per cent of the normal level indicating that γ-hydroxybutyrate inhibits neither monoamine oxidase nor catechol O-methyltransferase in vivo. The possible mechanisms of dopamine accumulation following γ-hydroxybutyrate administration are discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the magnetic susceptibility of some AIIBIII2CVI4 defect tetrahedral compounds was measured at room temperature and the experimental data were analyzed along the line of previous theoretical considerations in which the Langevin and the Van Vleck magnetic susceptibility components are described, respectively, in terms of atomic and bonding parameters of the compounds considered.
Abstract: The magnetic susceptibility of some AIIBIII2CVI4 defect tetrahedral compounds was measured at room temperature. The experimental data are analyzed along the line of previous theoretical considerations in which the Langevin and the Van Vleck magnetic susceptibility components are described, respectively, in terms of atomic and bonding parameters of the compounds considered. A comparison of the experimental results with those of ANB8–N normal tetrahedral compounds can be made by introducing the number of bonds per formula as a normalization factor.

TL;DR: In this article, the kinetics of paste, bottle, and ball-mill hydration of 3CaO SiO2 and the effects of additions of electrolytes and alcohols were studied.
Abstract: The kinetics of paste, bottle, and ball-mill hydration of 3CaO SiO2 and the effects of additions of electrolytes and alcohols were studied. Paste and bottle hydrations proceed through periods of induction, acceleration, and decay. If 3CaO SiO2 is hydrated in an excess of H2O, as in bottle hydration, the reaction rate is lower than that for paste hydration. The ball-mill hydration rate is much the highest and is controlled by the removal of the hydrate layer coating the 3CaO SiO2 particles. Electrolytes always accelerate and alcohols retard the reaction rate. Experimental results are discussed with reference to modern theories of the 3CaO SiO2 hydration mechanism.

TL;DR: In this article, an explanation of the non-linear dependence of the energy gap on the composition of substitutional solid solutions, considering different types of substitution, is given, and the nonlinearity is tightly connected with some characteristic energetic parameters and with the ionic radii ratio of the solution components.
Abstract: An explanation is given of the non-linear dependence of the energy gap on the composition of substitutional solid solutions, considering different types of substitution. It is found that the non-linearity is tightly connected with some characteristic energetic parameters and with the ionic radii ratio of the solution components.
