TL;DR: In this article, it is proposed that each psychopathological state has a specific cognitive profile, which involves the theme of perceived physical or psychological threat to one's personal domain, while in depression the ideational content emphasizes loss or deprivation.
Abstract: Beck's cognitive theory (CT) of anxiety and depression is briefly described. It is proposed that each psychopathological state has a specific cognitive profile. In anxiety states, this profile involves the theme of perceived physical or psychological threat to one's personal domain, while in depression the ideational content emphasizes loss or deprivation. Moreover, CT postulates differentiation between affective states based on the specific cognitive content evident with each disorder. The empirical literature bearing on the cognitive profile and content-specificity hypotheses is reviewed, and recommendations for further research are discussed.

Abstract: In this article, a moditied version of Duncan's (1956) model for the economic design of -control charts is extended to deal with situations involving the Weibull shock model. In the traditional Duncan approach to Markovian shock models, the length of sampling intervals is kept constant. When the process-failure mechanism follows a Weibull model or some other model having an increasing hazard rate. however, it may be desirable to have the frequency of sampling increased with the age of the system. This study proposes a cost model that uses variable sampling intervals as opposed to sampling intervals of fixed length. The computational results indicate that the proposed model under variable sampling intervals provides a lower cost than those obtained by using the existing model developed by Hu (1984) for a Welbull shock model having sampling intervals of fixed length.

Abstract: The following is a brief introduction to powered prosthetics and myoelectric control. This paper reviews the present availability and clinical impact of myoelectric prostheses. A significant observation is that these systems have reached a sufficient degree of maturity that they are accepted by many health-care funding agencies as reasonable and cost-effective components of the rehabilitation process. The limitations of both the mechanical systems and the myoelectric controls are discussed in some detail, from the viewpoint of the potential user. Finally, an overview is given of current research in this field with comments on probable directions of development.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the organometallic compounds containing oxygen atoms and propose two basic routes to the addition of an organic ligand to an inorganic oxo complex.
Abstract: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the organometallic compounds containing oxygen atoms. At present, the range of organic ligands found in organometallic oxo compounds is quite restricted, the majority being either η-C 5 R 5 or alkyls or aryls having no β-hydrogen atom. Two basic routes to organometallic oxo compounds may be envisaged addition of an organic ligand to an inorganic oxo complex or addition of oxygen to an organometallic compound. Exhaustive decarbonylation with concomitant oxidation of a cyclopentadienyl metal carbonyl has proved to be a useful preparative route to cyclopentadienyl metal oxo compounds having no other ligands. In the ethylene complex, the oxo and ethylene ligands are cis to one another and the C–C axis of the ethylene is perpendicular to the M–O bond, a configuration that maximizes π bonding between the W(IV) (d 2 ) and the ethylene. Complexes containing cyclopentadienyl and oxygen as coligands are of two basic types: those containing a terminal double bond between a metal and oxygen, [M=O], and those containing one or more doubly bridging oxygen atoms, [M(μ 2 -O) n M]. The clusters are held together by M–O bonds and the M–( η 5 -C 5 H 5 ) bonding is of the usual type. Parallel to the development of organometallic clusters containing oxygen atoms has been the preparation of organometallic polyoxometallates. Although the organometallic groups are on the surface of the polyoxometallate, they are strongly and covalently bonded to the peripheral oxygen atoms.

Abstract: Sixty‐seven female and 54 male college students participated in a study of sexual disagreements in which the man desired to engage in a higher level of sexual activity than did the woman Participants kept an ongoing record of dates and disagreements and provided descriptive information about some of these We had three goals: (a) to determine how frequently this type of disagreement occurs in dating relationships; (b) to determine the types and frequencies of the various strategies that men use when their partner indicates that she is unwilling to engage in a particular sexual activity; and (c) to describe the characteristics of disagreement situations and relate these to male compliance with the woman's refusal One or more disagreements were reported by 47% of participants, but disagreements occurred on only 7% of reported dates In 61% of the disagreement situations, the man complied with the woman's refusal without question Verbal and/or physical coercion was reported in 25% of the disagreement situ

Abstract: This paper considers the problem of selecting the optimal production run for a process with random linear drifts. A cost function per unit of finished product is derived. A search algorithm as well as a graphical method are suggested to find the optimal production run. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate how to determine the optimal production run. Finally, a sensitivity analysis of the model is performed.

TL;DR: This research probes the usefulness of color in enabling human observers to perceive clusters of points in a multidimensional space and compares the resolution of clusters in color and in space shows that color is an effective extension of space for conveying information about data dimensions.
Abstract: One of the advantages of computer graphics is that it enables an unprecedented degree of control over color. Since color vision is three-dimensional, this provides three additional perceptual dimensions that may be used in addition to the two spatial dimensions available on a flat display to present multidimensional data. This research probes the usefulness of color in enabling human observers to perceive clusters of points in a multidimensional space. Comparing the resolution of clusters in color and in space shows that color is an effective extension of space for conveying information about data dimensions. However, the perceptual space defined by color and space is not homogeneous and resolution is poor in a few specific directions. For this reason, the use of multiple views is advocated whenever color is used as a tool in exploratory data analysis.

TL;DR: A cylinder of amphibolite comprising the assemblage amphibole+clinozoisite+albite has been frictionally melted using radial friction welding apparatus as discussed by the authors, which was achieved by rotating a steel ring at 750 rpm and a force of 98 kN against a stationary steel casing which housed the rock sample.
Abstract: A cylinder of amphibolite comprising the assemblage amphibole+clinozoisite+albite has been frictionally melted using radial friction welding apparatus. This was achieved by rotating a steel ring at 750 rpm and a force of 98 kN for 10 s against a stationary steel casing which housed the rock sample. The ring penetrated the casing then proceeded to rotate and compress the sample to 95% of its original volume until it cracked at right angles to its length. This generated a whole rock silicate melt which injected the crack and on cooling produced glass, crystallites and vesicles. Melting occurred in two stages: an initial low pressure melting event with crystallization to augite+Fe-rich anorthite, followed by a high pressure melting event with crystallization to fassaitic clinopyroxene. It is estimated that pressures of ≥0.5 GPa rising to ≥1 GPa were realized at the ring-rock interface. Under these conditions fassaite superseded augite+anorthite crystallization due to the increased solubility of Ca-Tschermak's component in clinopyroxene. The high pressure event provides a crude analogue for the frictional melting of basic rock at depths of 15–30 km in a seismogenic fault: a situation realized along the slip zone between cold descending lithosphere and overlying mantle during subduction.

TL;DR: In this article, a finite-difference method formulated in boundary-fitted nonorthogonal general curvilinear coordinates is used for the prediction of transient free convection in enclosures of arbitrary geometry.
Abstract: A finite-difference method formulated in boundary-fitted nonorthogonal general curvilinear coordinates is used for the prediction of transient free convection in enclosures of arbitrary geometry. The governing system of equations in primitive variable form, simplified by the Boussinesq approximation, is transformed into a general curvilinear system in which all physical boundaries are described by constant coordinate lines. The finite-difference form of the equations is obtained by employing the control volume formulation and solved by a segregated numerical algorithm using a skewed time-marching procedure. Several test problems are considered in order to evaluate the performance of the method in terms of reliability, accuracy, stability, and efficiency. A problem of transient cooling of a square cavity is then considered in order to determine the effect of time step and under-relaxation coefficient on the accuracy and efficiency of the solution technique. The results of all test problems are presented an...

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of fire behaviour, using simulated and natural fuel loading conditions, on A. sieberiana seedling and sapling regeneration were investigated. But the results showed that high fire intensities during late dry season fires were more effective in controlling sapling height growth than early dry seasons fires of low intensities.
Abstract: Summary Following the recent decline in browsing and grazing pressures and changed fire regimes in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda, Acacia thickets have encroached on grassland habitats important for grazing mammals. The objective of this research was to test experimentally the effects of fire behaviour, using simulated and natural fuel loading conditions, on A. sieberiana seedling and sapling regeneration. A high fire intensity (3200 kW m-1) in natural fuels stimulated high seedling emergence (172 seedlings m-2) compared to 6 seedlings m-2 without fire. Also a highly significant linear regression was established between percentage top-kill of seedlings and fire intensities. High fire intensities during late dry season fires were more effective in controlling sapling height growth than early dry season fires of low intensities. A conceptual diagram was developed to show the major factors and possible pathways leading to successful invasion by A. sieberiana into grassland openings of the savanna.

Abstract: This paper considers the role of the clinical nurse specialist (CNS) as portrayed in the literature. The historical development of the role is highlighted, rationale for preparation at an advanced level presented and controversy regarding placement of the CNS in a line or staff position outlined. Also discussed are the five commonly accepted sub-roles of the CNS (practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher and change agent) as well as a new role (staff advocate) which can be seen to be emerging in the literature. The author presents some of her observations of the role of the CNS at a large urban teaching hospital and concludes that congruence between the ideal role portrayed in the literature and the actual practice of the role is possible.
