TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the endogenous formation of R&D networks among upstream firms and the welfare implications thereof, and they showed that the complete network emerges in equilibrium but only if spillovers are sufficiently low.
Abstract: This paper studies the endogenous formation of R&D networks among upstream firms and the welfare implications thereof. Both under an upstream price setting and an upstream quantity setting, it is shown that the complete R&D network emerges in equilibrium but only if spillovers are sufficiently low. Yet, under a quantity setting, the complete network arises within a larger range of spillovers. In both cases, however, there is a potential conflict between private incentives for R&D collaboration and societal ones. We discuss policy measures that may help to steer firms towards a more socially desirable outcome.

01 Dec 2014TL;DR: UbiNurSS as mentioned in this paper employs available devices which are capable of measuring pulse which reflects pulse or heart rate and blood pressure, and a smaller, cheaper computer-equivalent device - Raspberry Pi, has also been used.
Abstract: Health-related issues have been regarded as one of the major problems which directly impact quality of life of an individual and development of the nation. Avoidance of health monitoring negatively results in many aspects. Current medical system lacks of preventive medicine application which efficiently prevents and relieves disease prevalence. Deficiency of medical personnel affects the quality of treatment, care and nursing. Computer technology has been currently applied to several domains in order to yield better performance. Wearable devices have become usable and applicable to sense several vital signs and communicate them with other networked nodes via the Internet. In this paper, “UbiNurSS - A Ubiquitous Nursing Support System” has been developed for nursing support. UbiNurSS employs available devices which are capable of measuring pulse which reflects pulse or heart rate and blood pressure. A smaller, cheaper computer-equivalent device - Raspberry Pi, has also been used. UbiNurSS consists of two sub-systems - a Raspberry Pi based which is physically located at the patient room, and a web application based which facilitates the nurse’s tasks at a nursing station. The pulse report and corresponding warning can be generated in real-time. We demonstrate applicability of UbiNurSS in terms of communication ranges, concurrent pulse deliveries without interference and insignificant differences of the measurements in comparison to traditional devices.

09 Aug 2012TL;DR: The research and development on the embedded system for three-phase solar motor pump with the Volts/Hertz (V/F) maximum power point tracking technique (MPPT) which significantly simplifies the software design complexity for PWM three- phase motor drive inverter is presented.
Abstract: This paper presents the research and development on the embedded system for three-phase solar motor pump with the Volts/Hertz (V/F) maximum power point tracking technique (MPPT) which significantly simplifies the software design complexity for PWM three-phase motor drive inverter The software of the control system and MPPT is designed by using the microcontroller to generate the command signals for MC3PHAC chip The experimental results show that the maximum power adjusted by the proposed system on the variation of the sunlight intensity is very close to that of the reference system We also show the characteristics of the maximum power point tracking of the PV Array Our design of this system can be applied and developed on many other purposes In addition, by using our proposed software design, the implementation is simple and inexpensive

01 Apr 2017TL;DR: The research aims to draw the essential summary according to the important issue of infographic evaluation, for the audience can find the way to improve and create the better infographics.
Abstract: The visual/image is very good expression in the cultural heritage domain. Visual archive is one of the recording techniques for cultural heritage along with the static image like a picture and the reports documenting contents in literature. One category of lively image is infographic which usually created and shared by using ICT. The infographics are widely used nowadays because the people need less time to summarize all the needed information. There is the massive amount of information flooding, especially on the internet. However, there is pretty of not so good designed infographic which has been published in the social media. So the evaluation approach is about how user distinct the bad infographics from the good infographics, also user can evaluate infographics and improve them before launch them through media. This research aims to draw the essential summary according to the important issue of infographic evaluation, for the audience can find the way to improve and create the better infographics. The paper introduces the communication theories and classifies the template types of infographics of the static and interactive infographic. The questions of evaluation dimensions bundle into the three core foundation of the infographic which are Visual, Content, and Knowledge.
