TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore strategic positioning of manufacturing operations in global supply chains and describe an exploratory analysis which is aimed at gaining insight into the success factor to form a strategic positioning within global supply chain.
Abstract: Managing supply chains effectively has become a critical element in enhancing company profitability and has been identified as the new frontier of competitive advantage. An important element of effective supply chain management is the strategic positioning of the company. The strategic positioning process is concerned with the choice of production-centred activities a company carries out internally and those provided externally. Strategic positioning within manufacturing supply chains however is a relatively recent research topic with apparently few articles currently available that explicitly address associated issues directly. Moreover there is no previous research working strategic positioning of manufacturing operations in global context. Therefore the purpose of this paper is to explore strategic positioning within global supply chains. This paper is based on three cases drawn from the cross industry sector manufacturing companies. It describes an exploratory analysis which is aimed at gaining insight into the success factor to form a strategic positioning within global supply chains.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the previous studies on the supply chain management contexts by applying to the cassava supply chain, and focused on the case study in Thailand with the objective to improve the performance of the supply supply chain.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to review the previous studies on the supply chain management (SCM) contexts by applying to the cassava supply chain, and focuses on the case study in Thailand with the objective to the improve the performance of the supply chain. Literature reviews on the previous SCM contexts have been undertaken a thorough search of articles on selected journals relevant to SCM and cassava supply chain during the past 20 years (1998-2018). This paper aimed to provide information about the cassava supply chain, and use SCM contexts to improve the supply chain performance in order to sustain the competitive advantage to the future.

TL;DR: SPANNeT is capable of real-time data report, monitoring and warning efficiently conforming to the predefined thresholds which can be adjusted regarding user's requirements and structural engineering characteristics.
Abstract: Regarded as one of the physical aspects under societal and civil development and evolution, engineering structure is required to support growth of the nation. It also impacts life quality and safety of the civilian. Despite of carrying dead load (its own weight) and live load during operation, structural members are also significantly affected by disaster and environment. Proper inspection and detection are thus crucial both during regular and unsafe events. An Enhanced Structural Health Monitoring System Using Stream Processing and Artificial Neural Network Techniques (SPANNeT) has been developed and is described in this paper. SPANNeT applies wireless sensor network, real-time data stream processing and artificial neural network based upon the measured bending strains. Major contributions include an effective, accurate and energy-aware data communication and damage detection of the already built engineering structure. Strain thresholds have been defined according to computer simulation results and the AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) Bridge Design specifications for launching several warning levels. SPANNeT has been tested and evaluated by means of computer-based simulation, test-bed and on-site levels. According to the measurements, the observed maximum values are 25 to 30 microstrains during normal operation. The given protocol provided at least 90% of data communication reliability. SPANNeT is capable of real-time data report, monitoring and warning efficiently conforming to the predefined thresholds which can be adjusted regarding user's requirements and structural engineering characteristics.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the labour supply behavior of married Thai women with reference to their own and their spouse's wages and found that the impact of own wage on labour supplied is much larger than spouse's wage.
Abstract: This study investigates the labour supply behaviour of married Thai women with reference to their own and their spouse's wages. Controlling for spousal education and number of children, the main findings indicate an inverse relationship between married women's labour supply and wages, contrary to the evidence from developed countries. The estimated own wage elasticity ranges from −1.70 to −2.40 and the cross elasticity ranges from −0.16 to −0.17, indicating that the impact of own wage on labour supplied is much larger than spouse's wage. The results from disaggregation classified according to different socioeconomic backgrounds also show negative elasticities between own and spouses' wage across all subgroups, except for those with university degrees and higher income.
