Abstract: Die Kristallstruktur des Lithiumorthosilicats wurde mittels dreidimensionaler Fourier-Synthesen und nach der Methode der kleinsten Quadrate bestimmt. Die Gitterparameter der monoklinen Elementarzelle (C 2h 2 −P21/m) betragen:a=5,14;b=6,10;c=5,30 A und β=90,5°. Die Struktur enthalt isolierte [SiO4]-Tetraeder, welche durch [LiO n ]-Polyeder (n=4, 5, 6) verknupft sind. Hervorzuheben ist, das samtliche Lithiumlagen nur partiell besetzt sind. Als mittlerer Si−O-Abstand wurde 1,632 A erhalten; als Mittelwerte der Li−O-Abstande fur die verschiedenen Koordinationszahlen ergeben sich: 1,975 [4]; 2,099 [5] und 2,247 [6] A.

Abstract: MITOCHONDRIA contain small amounts of DNA which differ in several chemical and physical properties from nuclear DNA (reviewed in ref. 1). Mitochondrial DNA (MDNA) of yeast2–6 is replicated by a mitochondrial DNA polymerase7 which is different from the nuclear enzyme. (unpublished results of U. Wintersberger and E. W.). A genetic function of MDNA is indicated because it serves as a template for a mitochondrial RNA polymerase8,9. Mitochondrial RNA (MRNA) has been isolated and characterized using highly purified yeast mitochondria. MRNA of yeast separates into three species when subjected to sucrose gradient centrifugation, one with a sedimentation coefficient of about 4S, the other two sedimenting faster. The 4S RNA accepts amino-acids in a manner similar to cytoplasmic tRNA; the other two RNA components were assumed to be derived from mitochondrial ribosomes9. The two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) components of the mitochondria differ in their sedimentation properties from 25S and 17S RNA of the cytoplasmic 80S ribosomes of yeast, and, in contrast, closely resemble the 23S and 16S RNA species of bacterial 70S ribosomes10,11. Hybridization experiments show that yeast MRNA hybridizes readily with MDNA, in sharp contrast to cytoplasmic rRNA which forms hybrids with MDNA very poorly but anneals extensively to nuclear DNA11,12.

Abstract: Verhaltensanderungen und die Neuropathologie bei der 3-Acetylpyridinvergiftung der Ratte werden beschrieben. Im Gegensatz zu den Angaben in der Literatur fuhrt bei Ratten die Verabfolgung der Dosis letalis 50 von 3-Acetylpyridin zu einem totalen bis subtotalen Ausfall der unteren Oliven. Dementsprechend lassen sich die aufgetretenen und durch einen Test quantitativ erfasten Gangstorungen als Folge einer Olivenschadigung interpretieren. Die ebenfalls beobachteten Lernstorungen konnen neuropathologisch nicht eindeutig geklart werden. Die morphologischen Befunde werden in Hinblick auf die Pharmakologie des 3-Acetylpyridins diskutiert.

Abstract: Summary THE MICROSTRUCTURE OF WATER MOVEMENT IN THE BENTHOS The influence of water movement on organisms acts through the film of liquid adhering to the surface, the boundary-layer. The structure of water movement is analysed at all scales from oceanic to microscopic. Each dimension has its own problems and experimental methods. While in this respect oceanography has reached quite an advanced state, in the smallest dimensions we are only able to deal with ideal geometrical bodies; it has been possible nevertheless to show that the structure and size-groupings of micro-organisms show good correlations with the dynamics of the boundary-layer. At the present state of knowledge current-models and micro-probes can give information about the nature of water movements around very small objects, and these can be tested further by mathematical methods.

Abstract: The morphological changes of the abdominal aorta and inferior vena cava were studied from one to seven days following application of mild mechanical trauma (compression of the vessel wall with a clamp covered by rubber tubing). Both light microscopy of silver-stained surface preparations and electron microscopy of sectioned vessels were performed. The following morphological changes were observed in both the vena cava and abdominal aorta at all time sequences investigated: focal necrosis, abnormal overlapping of endothelial cells and pseudopod-formation from them usually directed into the lumen; and pseudopod-formation from medial smooth muscle cells, often passing into the intima via fenestrations in the elastic membrane. Leucocytes accumulated in the vessel wall only in the vena cava, whereas the ground substance increased only around myointimal cells of the aorta. The genesis and significance of the above changes are discussed.

Abstract: Structural protein prepared from mitochondria of wild-type baker's yeast contains several components which are separable by electrophoresis on polyacrylamide gels. One of these components is absent from structural protein preparations obtained from a cytoplasmic “petite” mutant.
Rabbit antisera against the structural protein of yeast mitochondria are capable of agglutinating yeast mitochondria and human erythrocytes coated with yeast mitochondrial structural protein. The agglutination of coated erythrocytes can be inhibited by absorption of antisera with structural protein. With the help of this sensitive haemagglutination-inhibition technique the antigenic properties of structural protein from mitochondria of the wild-type yeast and the “petite” mutant were compared. It was found that at least one of the antigenic determinants present in the mitochondrial structural protein preparations from wild-type yeast is lacking in those obtained from the mutant.

Abstract: An Hand von Literaturberichten und drei eigenen Fallen werden Klinik, Rontgenbild, morphologisches Verhalten und Differentialdiagnose desbenignen Chondroblastoms („Codmantumor“) besprochen. Die Kenntnis der selten vorkommenden Knochengeschwulst erscheint wegen der Gefahr einer Fehlinterpretation vor allem des morphologischen Bildes und der sich daraus ergebenden therapeutischen Konsequenzen wichtig. Bei exakter konservativ chirurgischer Therapie (Excochleation und evtl. Resektion) ist die Prognose der Erkrankung eine sehr gute. Auf die Problematik atypischer Chondroblastome wird hingewiesen.

Abstract: Bericht uber einen sporadischen Fall von akinetisch-rigidem Parkinson-Syndrom mit leichtem Pyramidenbahnsyndrom und terminaler rigider Versteifung, das zuletzt mit Neigung zu Kollapszustanden einherging. Das Gehirn bot eine symmetrische Linsenkernatrophie mit grungrauen eingesunkenen Herden im lateralen Putamen. Der histopathologische Befund entspricht dem Bild der „striato-nigralen Degeneration” (snD) (Adams et al., 1961): Symmetrische Putamendegeneration mit Gliose und reichlich Ablagerung von saurem Hamatin in der Makroglia der atrophischen Bezirke, sekundarer Atrophie des Pallidum externum sowie schwerer symmetrischer Schadigung der Zona compacta nigrae mit Verodung und Sklerose der ventralen und mittleren kaudalen Kerngruppen nebst einzelnen Lewy-Korperchen und symmetrischer Verodung von Locus coeruleus und dorsalem Vaguskern. Sie wird als eine spezielle Manifestationsform kombinierter Systematrophien aufgefast und nosologisch vorlaufig von der klassischen Paralysis agitans abgegrenzt. Eine klinische Unterscheidung ist im allgemeinen nicht moglich. Die Bedeutung supranigraler Lasionen fur die akinetisch-rigiden Parkinson-Syndrome wird diskutiert. Die Anhaufung von saurem Hamatin im Putamen ist ein unspezifischer, aber pathogenetisch ungeklarter Befund. Im Anhang wird eine weitere verifizierte Beobachtung von snD mit akinetisch-rigidem Parkinson-Syndrom und annahernd identischem neuropathologischen Befund erwahnt.

Das Verhaltnis Metall/Silicium ist eine Funktion der Valenzelektronenkonzentration. Os2Ge3 erweist sich als isotyp mit Os2Si3 und gehort damit ebenfalls zu den TiSi2-Abkommlingen.

Abstract: Three new species, Falcidens crossotus gen. et sp. nov., F. sagittiferus sp. nov., and Scutopus ventrolineatus gen. et sp. nov. of the little known class Caudofoveata (formerly Aplacophora-Chaetodermatidae), discovered in fjords near Bergen, are briefly described and observations made on living material are reported. These investigations, the first since Wiren (1892a) and Heath (1904, 1911), concern locomotion, respiration, and heart activity. Burrowing is achieved in the first species by movements of a peristaltic nature involving the anterior part of the body only, aided by hydrostatic pressure from the lymphatic pumps; the caudal part of the body plays no part in locomotion. The two ctenidia in the terminal pallial cavity respire by means of ciliary activity of the epithelium; movement of the ctenidia themselves was observed only in connection with the beating of the heart. Abstract: Klinisch-morphologischer Bericht uber sieben Autopsiefalle von „angiodysgenetischer nekrotisierender Myelopathie“ Es handelt sich um „plasmatische Infiltrationsnekrosen“ der caudalen Ruckenmarksabschnitte sowie mechanisch-zirkulatorische und sekundare Schaden der lumbosacralen Wurzeln im Rahmen spinaler Gefasmisbildungen mit Bevorzugung der auseren Ruckenmarks- und Wurzelvenen. Neben intraduralen racemosen venosen, selten auch arteriovenosen Angiomen, liegen haufig intramedullare Gefasanomalien (Angioma capillare und/oder racemosum venosum) vor. Hinzu kommen oft schwere „pseudoangiomatose“ Reaktivschaden intramedullarer Gefase. Infolge chronischer Zirkulations- und Schrankenstorungen kommt es im mittleren und hoheren Lebensalter zu einem progredienten Radikulo-Myelopathiesyndrom: Nach initialen lumbosacralen Wurzelsymptomen entwickelt sich uber eine Conus-Cauda-Symptomatik ein partielles bis totales Querschnittssyndrom im unteren Brustoder Lendenmark. Haufig besteht kombinierter Ausfall des zentralen und peripheren motorischen Neurons. Fast konstant liegt eine Liquordissoziation vor. Klinik und morphologisches Substrat zeigen kaudo-rostrale Progressionstendenz. Auf die pathogenetischen Probleme dieser Sonderform spinaler Angiodysgenesien wird eingegangen und die nosologische Stellung dieses Myelopathiesyndroms im Rahmen der spinalen Gefasmisbildungen diskutiert.

Abstract: Grosere Nervenstamme der Wurzel- und Kronenpulpa enthalten mark-haltige und markfreie Nervenfasern in ahnlicher Relation. Sie besitzen kein Perineurium und verlaufen zunachst gemeinsam mit Arteriolen, in der Endstrecke jedoch unabhangig von diesen. Die Bindegewebszellen der Pulpa sind in den zentralen Anteilen unregelmasig verzweigt, in der Randzone spindelformig, senkrecht zur Oberflache orientiert. Diese Zellen werden daher als „bipolare Zellen“ bezeichnet. Flachenhafte Fortsatze der Bindegewebszellen kammern die Grundsubstanz unvollstandig. Die Fortsatze der Bindegewebszellen stehen sowohl untereinander als auch mit den Odontoblasten durch desmosomenartige Kontaktstellen in Verbindung. Der Grosteil der Nerven endet ohne besondere Differenzierungen im Bereich der zellreichen Randzone der Pulpa innerhalb der von den Fortsatzen der Bindegewebszellen umgrenzten Raume. Als Funktionen dieser Nerven werden in erster Linie rezeptorische — Schmerz- und Milieurezeptoren — angenommen.

Abstract: Bericht uber die Gehirnbefunde des jungsten bisher bekannten Falles von Infantiler neuroaxonaler Dystrophie (InaD). Der im Alter von 6 Monaten interkurrent verstorbene Knabe mit negativer Familienanamnese bot bald nach der Geburt progressive neurologische Ausfalle (Bulbusdivergenz, Muskelhypotonie, Beugestellung der Extremitaten). Die Hirnsektion ergab eine diffuse Kleinhirnatrophie. Histologisch fanden sich in der verodeten Kleinhirnrinde zahlreiche Dendrit- und Axonschollen mit eigenartiger vacuoliger Degeneration der Purkinjezellen. Nur vereinzelt waren Spheroide in der Hirnstammhaube sowie im gut bemarkten Pallidum anzutreffen, das wenig Neutralfettablagerungen bot. Hinterstrangskerne und Telencephalon waren frei. Die Beobachtung entspricht formal den bekannten Fallen von InaD mit langerem Verlauf, ist aber durch den fast elektiven Befall des Kleinhirns gekennzeichnet, was fur dessen fruhe Beteiligung am Krankheitsprozes spricht. Die nosologische Stellung der InaD innerhalb der Syndromgruppe der “neuro-axonalen Dystrophien” wird kurz diskutiert. Im Anhang wird eine weitere verifizierte Beobachtung von InaD mit voll ausgepragtem Gewebssyndrom erwahnt.
