TLDR
In this article, the authors explored recent supply chain changes and assessed their impacts on the mode choice decision-making process, specifically addressing the implications for the use of rail and found that despite many of the identified changes effectively making the use on rail more difficult, considerable evidence has been found of the potential for rail to attract new traffic.

Part II: Policy instruments for sustainable road transport

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider three types of policies: physical policies, soft policies, and knowledge policies, which aim to bring about changes in consumers' and firms' behaviour, but in different ways.

Annoyance evaluation due to overall railway noise and vibration in Pisa urban areas.

TL;DR: The results show the limitations of traditional noise mapping for railway epidemiological studies based exclusively on ordinary transits and confirm the role of vibrations as enhancing factor for disturbance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of a transport policy potential for intermodal mode shift on a European scale

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a methodology with the necessary tools to assess the potential of a specific policy measure to produce a modal shift in favor of intermodal transport.

From Freight Partnerships to City Logistics Living Labs – Giving Meaning to the Elusive Concept of Living Labs

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the growing importance of urban freight research given the increasing urban population trends and the need for public and private sectors to work together -one way to achieve this has been through freight partnerships.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modal shift for greener logistics – the shipper's perspective

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the impact of contextual factors and operations changes on the success of a modal shift in a large-scale non-bulk, fast-moving goods distribution system.

A Survey of Optimization Models for Train Routing and Scheduling

TL;DR: A survey of recent optimization models for the most commonly studied rail transportation problems is presented and a classification of models is proposed and their important characteristics are described by focusing on model structure and algorithmic aspects.

Elasticities of mode choice probabilities and market elasticities of demand: Evidence from a simultaneous mode choice/shipment-size freight transport model

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present empirical estimates of market elasticities of demand and elasticity of mode choice probabilities in the intercity freight transport market, derived from a mixed discrete/continuous choice model of mode and shipment size.

International Logistics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a coherent perspective on contemporary global logistics from raw materials through production to the customer, including the roles of governments and intermediaries, international sourcing, the application of local trade laws, ocean, air, and surface carriers and systems.

Logistics and Transportation: Design and planning

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of recent trends in logistics and transportation, focusing on the following: Logistics performance metrics, vendor selection, inventory planning, and transportation planning.
