TLDR
Shape memory materials fulfill an important role in both actuation and mechanical coupling between actuators and associated dynamic systems as discussed by the authors, but the basic physical principles are very different and this paper attempts to outline the current state-of-theart to those already involved with the technology and perhaps open a fresh chapter in smart materials to those who are new to it.

Shape-memory polymers and their composites: Stimulus methods and applications

TL;DR: Shape-memory polymers (SMPs) undergo significant macroscopic deformation upon the application of an external stimulus (e.g., heat, electricity, light, magnetism, moisture and even a change in pH value).

Soft Robotic Grippers.

TL;DR: A critical overview of soft robotic grippers is presented, covering different material sets, physical principles, and device architectures, and improved materials, processing methods, and sensing play an important role in future research.

Remotely actuated polymer nanocomposites--stress-recovery of carbon-nanotube-filled thermoplastic elastomers.

TL;DR: This work demonstrates that the uniform dispersion of 1–5 vol.% of carbon nanotubes in a thermoplastic elastomer yields nanocomposites that can store and subsequently release, through remote means, up to 50% more recovery stress than the pristine resin.

Recent advances in shape memory polymers and composites : a review

TL;DR: Shape memory polymers (SMPs) belong to a class of smart polymers, which have drawn considerable research interest in recent years because of their applications in microelectromechanical systems, actuators, for self healing and health monitoring purposes, and in biomedical devices as mentioned in this paper.

Thermomechanical Constitutive Modeling in Shape Memory Polymer of Polyurethane Series

TL;DR: In this article, a thermomechanical constitutive model was developed by modifying a standard linear viscoelastic model for shape memory polymer of polyurethane series, in order to describe the thermodynamic properties of shape memory.

The thermal conductivity of foams. I. Models for heat conduction

A G Leach
- 14 May 1993 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the transfer of heat through a cellular material is considered, taking into account conduction in the solid and gas phases, but excluding radiation and convection, and various published methods of reaching such a conclusion are critically reviewed and compared.
