TLDR
The coding capacity and strategy of the CIV genome was elucidated by the analysis of the complete DNA nucleotide sequence of the viral genome using cycle sequencing by primer walking technology and the highest homologies were detected between putative viral gene products of CIV and lymphocystis disease virus of fish (LCDV).

Common Origin of Four Diverse Families of Large Eukaryotic DNA Viruses

TL;DR: The conservation of the disulfide-oxidoreductase, a major capsid protein, and two virion membrane proteins indicates that the odd-shaped virions of poxviruses have evolved from the more common icosahedral virion seen in asfarviruses, iridoviruses, and phycodnaviruses.

A decade of advances in iridovirus research.

TL;DR: The ability to detect iridovirus infections has advanced markedly with the adoption of highly sensitive loop-mediated isothermal amplification and multiplex polymerase chain reaction techniques for rapid diagnosis of infected individuals.

Ranaviruses (family Iridoviridae): emerging cold-blooded killers

TL;DR: It is clear that ranaviruses are no longer orphan viruses, and that they have a significant impact on diverse populations of ectothermic animals.

A novel class of herpesvirus with bivalve hosts.

TL;DR: Sequence comparisons showed that OsHV-1 is at best tenuously related to the two classes of vertebrate herpesviruses (those associated with mammals, birds and reptiles, and those associated with bony fish and amphibians).

A new method for predicting signal sequence cleavage sites.

TL;DR: A new method for identifying secretory signal sequences and for predicting the site of cleavage between a signal sequence and the mature exported protein is described.

Rapid and sensitive protein similarity searches

TL;DR: An algorithm was developed which facilitates the search for similarities between newly determined amino acid sequences and sequences already available in databases and increases sensitivity by giving high scores to those amino acid replacements which occur frequently in evolution.

CLUSTAL: A package for performing multiple sequence alignment on a microcomputer

TL;DR: An approach for performing multiple alignments of large numbers of amino acid or nucleotide sequences is described, based on first deriving a phylogenetic tree from a matrix of all pairwise sequence similarity scores obtained using a fast pairwise alignment algorithm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of membrane and surface protein sequences with the hydrophobic moment plot.

TL;DR: An algorithm has been developed which identifies alpha-helices involved in the interactions of membrane proteins with lipid bilayers and which distinguishes them from helices in soluble proteins, and suggests four transmembrane helices and a surface-seeking helix in fragment B, the moiety known to have trans Membrane function.
