Application of natural dyes on textiles
TLDR
In this paper, the authors have reported the studies available on the characterization and chemical/biochemical analysis of natural dyes; extraction of colorants from different natural sources; effects of different mordants and mordanting methods; conventional and non-conventional methods of natural dyeing; physico-chemical studies on dyeing process variables and dyeing kinetics; development of newer shades and analysis of colour parameters for textiles dyed with natural dye.Abstract:
This paper reports the studies available on the characterization and chemical/biochemical analysis of natural dyes; extraction of colorants from different natural sources; effects of different mordants and mordanting methods; conventional and non-conventional methods of natural dyeing; physico-chemical studies on dyeing process variables and dyeing kinetics; development of newer shades and analysis of colour parameters for textiles dyed with natural dyes; and test of compatibility for application of binary mixture of natural dyes. The chemical modification of textile substrate for improving dyeability, attempts for improvement in overall colour fastness properties and survey of some traditional processes of natural dyeing in different parts of India have also been discussed.read more

Natural dyes with future aspects in dyeing of Textiles: A research article
TL;DR: Natural dyeing is a complex, specialized science as mentioned in this paper and many practitioners of the craft of natural dyeing (i.e. using naturally occurring sources of dye) maintain that natural dyes have a far superior aesthetic quality which is much more pleasing to the eye.

Interaction of Natural Dye (Allium cepa) with Ionic Surfactants
TL;DR: In this article, the pigment in the dye pelargonidin was found to be 2.25% and the interaction of the dye with ionic surfactants, namely, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and anionic (sodium lauryl sulphate), was studied by spectrophotometrically, conductivity, and surface tension measurements.

Feasibility and Surface Evaluation of the Pigment from Scytalidium cuboideum for Inkjet Printing on Textiles
Sarath M. Vega Gutierrez,Yujuan He,Yu Cao,Derek W. Stone,Zielle M. Walsh,Rajiv Malhotra,Hsiou-Lien Chen,Chih-Hung Chang,Seri C. Robinson +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the red crystallizing pigment from Scytalidium cuboideum was tested in an inkjet setting with three different ink formulations involving the red pigment: hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), ethanol, and acetone.

Investigating the Combined Effect of Natural and Metal Salt Mordants on Coloring Potential of Indian Rhubarb (Rheum emodi) Natural Dye
TL;DR: In this article, Indian rhubarb (Rheum emodi) was used as a source of natural dye for the development of deep and bright shades on premordanted woollen yarn samples.
