Application of natural dyes on textiles

TLDR
In this paper, the authors have reported the studies available on the characterization and chemical/biochemical analysis of natural dyes; extraction of colorants from different natural sources; effects of different mordants and mordanting methods; conventional and non-conventional methods of natural dyeing; physico-chemical studies on dyeing process variables and dyeing kinetics; development of newer shades and analysis of colour parameters for textiles dyed with natural dye.
Abstract
This paper reports the studies available on the characterization and chemical/biochemical analysis of natural dyes; extraction of colorants from different natural sources; effects of different mordants and mordanting methods; conventional and non-conventional methods of natural dyeing; physico-chemical studies on dyeing process variables and dyeing kinetics; development of newer shades and analysis of colour parameters for textiles dyed with natural dyes; and test of compatibility for application of binary mixture of natural dyes. The chemical modification of textile substrate for improving dyeability, attempts for improvement in overall colour fastness properties and survey of some traditional processes of natural dyeing in different parts of India have also been discussed.

Study the effect of ammonia post-treatment on color characteristics of annatto-dyed textile substrate using reflectance spectrophotometery

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of ammonia after-treatment on color behavior in wool yarns was investigated and it was concluded that after treatment with ammonia caused a decrease in lightness (L*) values, there was less lightness in the red hue of the yarns with the increase of ammonia percentage in solution.

Application of Bacterial Pigments as Colorant

TL;DR: In the last decade, investigations about possible use of natural dyes in textile dyeing processes have been carried out by various research groups as mentioned in this paper, and the degree of dyeing was normally compared based on the colorfastness properties which can be defined as the property of a pigment or dye, or materials containing the coloring material, to retain its original hue, without fading, running or changing when wetted, washed, cleaned or stored under normal conditions when exposed to light, heat or other influences.
