Application of natural dyes on textiles

TLDR
In this paper, the authors have reported the studies available on the characterization and chemical/biochemical analysis of natural dyes; extraction of colorants from different natural sources; effects of different mordants and mordanting methods; conventional and non-conventional methods of natural dyeing; physico-chemical studies on dyeing process variables and dyeing kinetics; development of newer shades and analysis of colour parameters for textiles dyed with natural dye.
Abstract
This paper reports the studies available on the characterization and chemical/biochemical analysis of natural dyes; extraction of colorants from different natural sources; effects of different mordants and mordanting methods; conventional and non-conventional methods of natural dyeing; physico-chemical studies on dyeing process variables and dyeing kinetics; development of newer shades and analysis of colour parameters for textiles dyed with natural dyes; and test of compatibility for application of binary mixture of natural dyes. The chemical modification of textile substrate for improving dyeability, attempts for improvement in overall colour fastness properties and survey of some traditional processes of natural dyeing in different parts of India have also been discussed.

Eco-friendly cotton fabric dyeing using a green, sustainable natural dye from Gunda Gundo ( Citrus sinensis ) orange peels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a three-variable, three-level Box-Behnken design using Response Surface Methodology (Design experiment software version 11) to evaluate the carotenoid content of the oranges extracted from the Gunda Gundo (Citrus sinensis) peels.

Investigation of Dyeing Properties of Different Fabric Species with Alkanna Orientalis Root Extract

TL;DR: In this paper, the dyeing properties of different fabric species were investigated using root extract of yellow sormunen (Alkanna orientalis), and the same procedure was applied to cotton and wool fabrics that allowed in Artifical Urinary System (AUS) [% 3 NH3 + % 3 urea + %3 CaC2O4 (g/v)] for 24 h.

Dyeing of Egyptian Cotton Fabrics with Orange Peel Using Padding Technique

TL;DR: In this article, fabrics made from extra long Egyptian cotton of Giza 93 were dyed with the color extracted using the pad-dry technique and the results showed high tensile strength, high color strength, and high fastness properties.

Development and Optimization of A Non-traditional Extraction Process of Yellow Colorant from Safflower Petals as A Natural Colorant

TL;DR: In this paper, Safflower petals were submitted to innovative extraction using microwave irradiation and under a variety of conditions, and the effects of dye concentration, dye path pH, colorant temperature, colorants time and liquor ratio, were studied in terms of dye uptake and shade.
