TLDR
In this paper, Landsat 5 and 8 images of the post-monsoon months of 1989 and 2015 were used to extract the open water bodies of wetlands, where density slicing of the shortwave infrared band and the modified normalised water difference index (MNDWI) were utilised for the extraction of open water body.Abstract:
Wetlands are one of the most productive and fragile ecosystems on the Earth’s surface. They have been providing essential services (irrigation, groundwater recharge, flood control and drinking water) to the society since the beginning of civilisation. The middle Ghaghara River basin is located in middle Ganga alluvial plain and is mainly drained by Ghaghara, Sarju, Rapti, Burhi Rapti and Kuwano rivers. In this study, Landsat 5 and 8 images of the post-monsoon months of 1989 and 2015 were used to extract the open water bodies of wetlands. Density slicing of the shortwave infrared band and the modified normalised water difference index (MNDWI) were utilised for the extraction of open water bodies. The total area of open water bodies was 472 km2 in 1989, while it reduced to 317 km2 in 2015. Thus, the reduction in open water bodies of wetlands is about 33%.read more

Nutrient chemistry and eutrophication risk assessment of the Ghaghara river, India
TL;DR: In this paper, the eutrophication risk associated with the nutrient flux from the Ghaghara river by using nutrient molar ratios and indicators for coastal EUTrophication potential values was evaluated.

Estimates of the Regression Coefficient Based on Kendall's Tau
TL;DR: In this article, a simple and robust estimator of regression coefficient β based on Kendall's rank correlation tau is studied, where the point estimator is the median of the set of slopes (Yj - Yi )/(tj-ti ) joining pairs of points with ti ≠ ti.

Ecological and Evolutionary Responses to Recent Climate Change
TL;DR: Range-restricted species, particularly polar and mountaintop species, show severe range contractions and have been the first groups in which entire species have gone extinct due to recent climate change.

TL;DR: This article explores the special features of freshwater habitats and the biodiversity they support that makes them especially vulnerable to human activities and advocates continuing attempts to check species loss but urges adoption of a compromise position of management for biodiversity conservation, ecosystem functioning and resilience, and human livelihoods.

Modification of normalised difference water index (NDWI) to enhance open water features in remotely sensed imagery
TL;DR: In this paper, the normalized difference water index (NDWI) was modified by substitution of a middle infrared band such as Landsat TM band 5 for the near infrared band used in the NDWI.
