TLDR
The discussions regarding the existing automated and autonomous vehicles in the field of the main freight transport modes as well as possible developments will be presented and considered in the light of future demand structures.Abstract:
The development of mobility has always had a considerable influence on economic, social and political structures. Without efficient transport systems, the industrial revolutions of the last centuries would not have been possible or only to a much lesser extent. With the advancing digitalization and the development of automated and autonomous vehicles, new framework conditions are emerging, which are leading to far-reaching changes in the transport sector. In this contribution, the discussions regarding the existing automated and autonomous vehicles in the field of the main freight transport modes as well as possible developments will be presented and considered in the light of future demand structures.read more

Exploring the Potentials of Electrical Waterborne Transport in Europe: The E-ferry Concept
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the concept of a fully electrified ferry that aims to support and promote energy efficient, zero GHG emission and air pollution, free waterborne transportation for island communities, coastal zones and inland waterways in Europe and beyond.

Development of a monthly to seasonal forecast framework tailored to inland waterway transport in central Europe
TL;DR: In this article, two competitive forecast approaches have been implemented: the dynamical set-up forces a hydrological model with post-processed outputs from ECMWF general circulation model System 4, whereas the statistical approach is based on the empirical relationship of global oceanic, climate and regional hydro-meteorological data with river flows.

Turnpike trusts and property income: new evidence on the effects of transport improvements and legislation in eighteenth‐century England1
TL;DR: Turnpike trusts increased property income in local areas by at least 20 per cent as discussed by the authors, which shed light on why local property owners promoted and managed turnpikes and contributed to the growth in real land rents between 1690 and 1815.

Survey on Autonomous Surface Vessels: Part II - Categorization of 60 Prototypes and Future Applications.
TL;DR: There is a lack of research on the different applications and suitable environments for the deployment of ASV, so there is a need for more research on this topic.
