The KOH-DMSO pair is an example of the superbasic medium which is simplest to prepare and use; its basicity is located between potassium tert-butylate and potassium dimsyl in DMSO.
Abstract
1. Saturated solutions of alkali metal hydroxides in dimethyl sulfoxide are highly basic. The values of the acidity function H varied from 20.5 to 30.5 in going from LiOH to KOH. 2. The strong dependence of the basicity of the alkali-DMSO system on the nature of the cation is the result of an ion pair interaction in the solution which increases with a decrease in the radius of the cation and the varied drying capacity of the alkalis present in excess. 3. The KOH-DMSO pair is an example of the superbasic medium which is simplest to prepare and use; its basicity is located between potassium tert-butylate and potassium dimsyl in DMSO.

"Ghost peaks" of ezetimibe: Solution degradation products of ezetimibe in acetonitrile induced by alkaline impurities from glass HPLC vials.

TL;DR: It is determined that the solution degradation is caused by a base‐catalyzed process, during which ezetimibe undergoes dimerization to form two dimeric impurities, which have not been reported in the literature, and to a less degree, isomerization to produce an isomeric impurity that has been reported before.

Mechanism of base-catalyzed autooxidation of corticosteroids containing 20-keto-21-hydroxyl side chain

TL;DR: In this article, a novel mechanism for the observed autooxidation is proposed, in which the facile oxidation of the presumed enolate (resulting from the carbanion at the 21 position) by molecular oxygen is the key step.

Curcumin in dimethyl sulfoxide: Stability, spectral, luminescent and acid-base properties

TL;DR: In this paper, the properties of curcumin in alkaline dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) have been studied and it has been shown that curcan is inert towards autooxidation in this medium.

Aldol Condensation Versus Superbase-Catalyzed Addition of Ketones to Acetylenes: A Quantum-Chemical and Experimental Study.

TL;DR: In this article, the mechanism of aldol condensation of ketones in KOH/DMSO superbasic media has been investigated using the B2PLYP(D2)/6-311+G**/B3LYP/6-31+G* quantum-chemical approach.
