Analysis of Binding Reactions by Fluorescence Recovery after Photobleaching

TL;DR: The approach establishes a more general framework to assess the role of diffusion, the number of binding states, and the binding constants underlying a FRAP recovery, and defines constraints on what can be estimated from FRAP data, shows that diffusion should play a key role in many FRAP recoveries, and provides tools to test its contribution.

Abstention in elections with asymmetric information and diverse preferences

TL;DR: In this article, a model of a two-candidate election with costless voting in which voters have asymmetric information and diverse preferences is presented, and it is shown that a strictly positive fraction of the electorate will abstain and that elections effectively aggregate voters' private information.

A three-dimensional tunnel model for calculation of train-induced ground vibration

TL;DR: In this article, an analytical three-dimensional model for the dynamics of a deep underground railway tunnel of circular cross-section is presented, where the tunnel is conceptualised as an infinitely long, thin cylindrical shell surrounded by soil of infinite radial extent.

Floquet engineering with quasienergy bands of periodically driven optical lattices

TL;DR: In this paper, a primer on the Floquet theory of periodically time-dependent quantum systems is provided, and it is shown how to apply this framework for computing the quasienergy band structure governing the dynamics of ultracold atoms in driven optical cosine lattices.

Neutral theory: a historical perspective

TL;DR: To resolve a panselectionist paradox, the population geneticist Kimura invented a neutral theory, where each gene is equally likely to enter the next generation whatever its allelic type, and Hubbell devised a similar neutral theory for forest ecology, assuming each tree is equal likely to reproduce whatever its species.

Some new asymptotic expansions for Bessel functions of large orders

TL;DR: The theory of the asymptotic expansion of Bessel functions whose arguments and orders are of comparable magnitudes was incomplete as discussed by the authors, and the existing expansions for large orders are those of Debye and Meissel, detailed derivations of both of which are given by Watson ((8), pp. 237-48).
