H.264/MPEG-AVC, H.265/MPEG-HEVC and VP9 codec comparison for live gaming video streaming

TL;DR: An objective evaluation of eight most popular games encoded using H.265/MPEG-HEVC and VP9 encoders for live game video streaming applications as currently used by Twitch.tv and YouTube-Gaming finds the magnitude of bitrate savings for VP9 compared to H.264/ MPEG-AVC is found to be highly dependent on the content type.
Journal ArticleDOI

Novel Rate-Quantization Model-Based Rate Control With Adaptive Initialization for Spatial Scalable Video Coding

TL;DR: A novel spatial-layer rate-control algorithm is proposed for scalable video coding (SVC) that is able to control constrained bit rates accurately with better rate-distortion performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Statistical Early Termination Model for Fast Mode Decision and Reference Frame Selection in Multiview Video Coding

TL;DR: An efficient Statistical DIRECT Mode Early Termination (SDMET) model which estimates the rate distortion degradation, false acceptance rate and false reject rate of early DIRECT mode decision and can adaptively adjust the rate distort cost threshold not only according to the quantization parameter, but also the video content and motion properties is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

A VVC Proposal With Quaternary Tree Plus Binary-Ternary Tree Coding Block Structure and Advanced Coding Techniques

TL;DR: The proposed video codec achieves 43.81% average bit rate savings based on objective measures compared to the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) anchors and is among the best-performing CfP responses both objectively and subjectively.

Extended Quad-Tree Partitioning for Future Video Coding

TL;DR: The Extended Quad-tree (EQT) partitioning is proposed, which further extends the QTBT scheme and increases the partitioning exibility and allows the interleaving with BT partitioning for enhanced adaptability.
