Motion vector inheritance for high efficiency 3D video plus depth coding

TL;DR: Experimental results show averaged total bitrate reductions in terms of Bjontegaard-Delta bitrate, which corresponds to bitrate savings for the depth signal of about 18% for the 2-view case and about 10% for a 3-View case.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Efficient Mode Selection Prior to the Actual Encoding for H.264/AVC Encoder

TL;DR: Mode selection by simply minimizing the distortion with motion vectors and header information produces very similar performance to the full constrained optimization, while it reduces the mode selection and over all encoding time by 31% and 12%, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

Side Information and Noise Learning for Distributed Video Coding Using Optical Flow and Clustering

TL;DR: The optical flow technique is exploited at the decoder side to compensate for weaknesses of block-based methods, when using motion-compensation to generate side information frames and clustering is introduced to capture cross band correlation and increase local adaptivity in the noise modeling.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Fast QTMT Partition Decision Algorithm in VVC Intra Coding based on Variance and Gradient

TL;DR: This is the first attempt to apply traditional method to accelerating the rectangular partition problem in VVC intra prediction and can save averagely 53.17% encoding time with only 1.62% BDBR increase and 0.09dB BDPSNR loss compared to anchor VTM4.0.

Rate-Distortion and Complexity Comparison of HEVC and VVC Video Encoders

TL;DR: A comparison between the current state-of-art HEVC standard with the most recent project that is being conducted by the same group of experts, entitled Versatile Video Coding (VVC), which provides significant bit-rate savings but has high computational costs.
