Geometry-Adaptive Block Partitioning for Intra Prediction in Image & Video Coding

TL;DR: This paper study in detail the use of geometry-adaptive intra models, where wedgelet like discontinuities are used in order to define separate coding regions where different statistical/waveform modeling tools can be used, and extends the existing H.264/AVC intra coding scheme by introducing two additional geometric modes: INTRA16X16GEO, and INTRA8X8GEO.

Fast Coding Quad-Tree Decisions Using Prediction Residuals Statistics for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)

TL;DR: This work proposes a method to reduce the high encoding time by pruning the coding quad-trees using prediction residuals statistics, and experimental results show that the proposed residual-based pruning method can reduce encode time by about 44% with an average of about 1.0% coding loss.

Motion analysis in 3D DCT domain and its application to video coding

TL;DR: It is shown that global, constant-velocity, translational motion in an image sequence induces in the DCT domain spectral occupancy planes, similarly to the FT domain, however, these planes are subject to spectral folding.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improved side information generation for distributed video coding by exploiting spatial and temporal correlations

TL;DR: Both the objective and perceptual qualities of the corrupted sequences are significantly improved by the proposed hybrid error concealment scheme, outperforming both spatial and temporal concealments alone.

Separable adaptive interpolation filter for video coding

TL;DR: A separable adaptive interpolation filtering is proposed in this paper that achieves the same coding efficiency than the non-separable adaptive filter used in prior art.
