Comparison of mechanical properties and the nugget formation of composite ceramic-centered annular welding and traditional resistance spot welding

TLDR
In this article, a composite ceramic-centered annular electrode (RAW) was adopted to increase the strength of welded joints by the formation of a large nugget with low indentation depth.

Measurement of local material properties and failure analysis of resistance spot welds of advanced high-strength steel sheets

TL;DR: In this paper, a mini-peel test was developed to enable local fracture in the heat affected zone (HAZ) for numerical inverse calibration of constitutive parameters, and the fracture constants of weld zones calibrated using Cockcroft-Latham ductile failure criterion were incorporated in finite element models to predict the failure modes of spot welds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of loading orientation on mechanical properties of spot welds

TL;DR: In this article , a new fixture based on Arcan-apparatus coupled with digital image correlation technique to track the instantaneous orientation of the KS-II coupons was used to quantify the actual proportion of shear and tensile components of force applied to the nugget, instead of the nominal ratio at the beginning of the tests, which in turn improved the calibration accuracy of a spot weld strength-based failure criterion.

Characterizing local distribution of microstructural features and its correlation with microhardness in resistance spot welded ultra-low-carbon steel: Experimental and finite element characterization

TL;DR: In this article , the influence of microstructural features on the heterogeneous distribution of hardness in resistance spot welded (RSWed) 340BH steel was investigated using optical microscopic and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of Process Signals of Resistance Spot Welding for DP590 Steel Using Numerical Calculation

TL;DR: In this article , a 2D FE model, which coupled thermal, electrical and mechanical fields, was established with reasonable meshing and parameters and boundary conditions, and the reasonability and accuracy of the FE numerical calculation were not only verified after the welding process but also examined in depth during the intermediate welding process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of plate thickness on mechanical properties and failure behaviors of resistance spot welded advanced high strength steels

TL;DR: In this paper , the mechanical properties and failure behaviors of RSWs were investigated under lap-shear (LS) loads, and a new parameter, standardized shear strength (σSS), quantified the relationship between the FLS values, plate thicknesses and BM σb values, σSS = FLS / T1/T2 = f(σb).

Fracture characteristics of three metals subjected to various strains, strain rates, temperatures and pressures

TL;DR: In this paper, a cumulative-damage fracture model is introduced which expresses the strain to fracture as a function of the strain rate, temperature and pressure, and the model is evaluated by comparing computed results with cylinder impact tests and biaxial (torsion-tension) tests.

A general forming limit criterion for sheet metal forming

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that the forming limit for both proportional loading and non-proportional loading can be explained from a single criterion which is based on the state of stress rather than the state-of-stress.

Finite element modelling of the compressive response of lattice structures manufactured using the selective laser melting technique

TL;DR: In this paper, the compressive response of lattice structures based on two simple architectures, namely, a body-centred cubic structure (BCC) and a similar structure with vertical pillars, were used to model the structures under quasi-static compressive loads.

Critical review of automotive steels spot welding: process, structure and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental understanding of structure-properties relationship in automotive steels resistance spot welds is discussed. And a brief review of friction stir spot welding, as an alternative to RSW, is also included.

A plastic constitutive equation incorporating strain, strain-rate, and temperature

TL;DR: An empirical plasticity constitutive form describing the flow stress as a function of strain, strain-rate, and temperature has been developed, fit to data for three dual-phase (DP) steels, and compared with independent experiments outside of the fit domain this paper.
