Abstract
It's challenging to measure non-repetitive events in real time in the field of instrumentation and measurement. Dispersive Fourier transformation is an emerging method that permits capture of rare events, such as optical rogue waves and rare cancer cells in blood. This Review article covers the principle of dispersive Fourier transformation and its implementation in diverse applications.

Frequency-hopping microwave waveform generation based on a frequency-tunable optoelectronic oscillator

TL;DR: High-speed and wideband frequency-hopping microwave waveform generation based on a frequency-tunable optoelectronic oscillator using a polarization modulator and a polarization-maintaining phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating is demonstrated.

Incoherent-light temporal stretching of high-speed intensity waveforms

TL;DR: This work reports incoherent-light temporal stretching of radiofrequency waveforms by a magnification factor of 2.86, with a time-bandwidth product exceeding 160, i.e., a resolution of ~50 ps over a temporal aperture of ~8 ns, totally avoiding the use of chirp-controlled pulsed lasers.

Generation and pulsating behaviors of loosely bound solitons in a passively mode-locked fiber laser

TL;DR: In this paper, the experimental observation of loosely bound solitons and pulsations in a passively mode-locked fiber laser was demonstrated, showing that the soliton amount inside one soliton bunch typically increases with the increment of pump power, while the average pulse-to-pulse separation in the regime of hundreds of picoseconds decreases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Atomic photoionization dynamics in ultrashort cycloidal laser fields

TL;DR: Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations of electron vortices generated by ultrafast multiphoton ionization of alkali-metal atoms are performed in this paper, where the results show excellent agreement with previous experiments while providing insights into regimes not accessible in current experimental setups.

Two-Photon Laser Scanning Fluorescence Microscopy

TL;DR: The fluorescence emission increased quadratically with the excitation intensity so that fluorescence and photo-bleaching were confined to the vicinity of the focal plane as expected for cooperative two-photon excitation.
