Journal ArticleDOI
Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate): a potential biodegradable excipient for direct 3D printing of pharmaceuticals.
TL;DR: In this article , a 3D square model was manufactured in different dimensions and loaded with increasing percentages of a model drug (up to 30% w/w), and the thermal behavior of the printed system was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, and thermal gravimetric analysis.

Polymers for 3D Printing and Customized Additive Manufacturing
TL;DR: Polymers are by far the most utilized class of materials for AM and their design, additives, and processing parameters as they relate to enhancing build speed and improving accuracy, functionality, surface finish, stability, mechanical properties, and porosity are addressed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new chapter in pharmaceutical manufacturing: 3D-printed drug products.
TL;DR: It is believed that the recent approval of a 3D printed drug product will stimulate continual innovation in pharmaceutical manufacturing technology and highlight how product and process understanding can facilitate the development of a control strategy for different 3D printing methods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Solid free-form fabrication of drug delivery devices
Benjamin M. Wu,Scott W. Borland,Russell A. Giordano,Linda G. Cima,Emanuel M. Sachs,Michael J. Cima +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used 3D printing for the fabrication of polymeric drug delivery systems, where the drug concentration profile is first specified in a computer model of the device which is then built using the 3DP process.
Journal ArticleDOI
3D printing for chemical, pharmaceutical and biological applications
TL;DR: 3D printing is becoming increasingly prevalent in modern chemistry laboratories as discussed by the authors, and it provides chemists with the ability to design, prototype and print functional devices that integrate catalytic and/or analytical functionalities.
Journal ArticleDOI
3D printing: Principles and pharmaceutical applications of selective laser sintering.
Atheer Awad,Fabrizio Fina,Alvaro Goyanes,Alvaro Goyanes,Simon Gaisford,Abdul Basit,Abdul Basit +6 more
TL;DR: The current state-of-the-art in SLS 3D printing is reviewed, including the main principles underpinning this technology and the diverse selection of materials and essential parameters that influence printing are highlighted.
