TLDR
In this article, the twin lamella angle follows a normal distribution with the maximum along the loading axis in tension but not in compression, and different textured samples preparation via two different routes follow the Hall-Petch relation with similar slopes but exhibit an ∼50 MPa gap in yield stress.

Effect of grain size and twins on corrosion behaviour of AZ31B magnesium alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the corrosion resistance of AZ31B alloy with different grain sizes in 3.5% NaCl solution using immersion testing, evolved hydrogen gas measurement and potentiodynamic polarisation measurement.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hall-Petch relationship in Mg alloys: A review

TL;DR: In this paper, a review and comments of the past work on the factors influencing k in Mg alloys are presented, and the reason for texture effect on k is analyzed based on the mechanism of Hall-Petch relationship.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of texture on Hall–Petch relationships in an Mg alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of changes in crystallographic texture on the Hall-Petch (H-P) relationship for an Mg alloy was investigated, and the texture variations were facilitated by changing the uniaxial tensile loading orientation with respect to the normal direction of the rolled Mg plate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of microstructure evolution on corrosion of different crystal surfaces of AZ31 Mg alloy in a chloride containing solution

TL;DR: The crystallographic basal plane dominated rolling surface (RS) of AZ31 Mg alloy has higher corrosion resistance in a chloride containing solution than its prismatic plane dominated cross-section surface (CS) as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

On tension–compression yield asymmetry in an extruded Mg–3Al–1Zn alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, the tension-compression yield asymmetry of an extruded Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy was examined by changing load directions and grain sizes in room-temperature mechanical tests.

The onset of twinning in metals: a constitutive description

TL;DR: In this article, a constitutive expression for the twinning stress in BCC metals is developed using dislocation emission from a source and the formation of pile-ups, as rate-controlling mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of grain size on the compressive deformation of wrought Mg-3Al-1Zn

TL;DR: The influence of the grain size on the flow stress of extruded Mg-3Al-1Zn tested in compression is examined in this paper, where samples with grain sizes varying between 3 and 23 μm were prepared by altering the extrusion conditions.

Mechanical properties and microstructures of an AZ61 Mg Alloy produced by equal channel angular pressing

TL;DR: In this article, the negative slope of yield stress versus d−1/2 in ECAPed AZ61 alloys can be explained by the gradual transition of the texture during repetitive equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) to control the grain size.
